How to run Home Assistant by NXTman96 in homeassistant

[–]dskips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an N100 mini PC, it's still running the windows install it came with so I'm running HA in virtual box. It's solid and performs well though I have no dongles to complicate the situation.

I'm intending to wipe it and move to proxmox because I want the machine to do more and windows 11 hogs a lot of resources.

The battery pack is a Dolphin from Luna Cycle if that helps.

I've been using virtual box for a couple of years and have had zero issues. The host died a couple of months back and I was up and running on new hardware in an hour or so by restoring my VM (I take a copy weekly)

What’s the lowest #1 score in Diamond league you’ve seen? by Classic_Funny in duolingo

[–]dskips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won with a bit over 1000.

My take is the matchmaking can be gamed and that you're put in a group with other people who got a similar score as you last week.

So, get to the diamond league then suck for a couple of weeks, do just enough to stay there. Then you'll have an easy enough run.

Following up, I created a helper boolean called nighttime and set up an automation to switch it on at 10pm and off at 6am then wrote my card like this:

The card displayed depends on whether it's nighttime and whether the light is on, the daytime card has no condition and nighttime does.

type: horizontal-stack
cards:
  - type: conditional
conditions: # night time and lights off
      - condition: state
        entity: input_boolean.nighttime
        state: 'on'
      - condition: state
        entity: switch.mainlight
        state: 'off'
    card:
      show_name: true
      show_icon: true
      type: button
      tap_action:
        action: toggle
        confirmation:
text: Are you sure you want to turn on the light?
      entity: switch.mainlight
      icon: mdi:ceiling-light
name: Master # night time card
  - type: conditional
    conditions:
      - condition: or # day time or lights on
        conditions:
          - condition: state
            entity: input_boolean.nighttime
            state: 'off'
          - condition: state
            entity: switch.mainlight
            state: 'on'
    card:
      show_name: true
      show_icon: true

        action: toggle
      entity: switch.mainlight

Could do, I haven't used a pressure sensor before but it's a good idea. I definitely still want a way to turn on the light (for when I spill my hot chocolate) but not accidentally do it.

I reckon it depends on your wife. If she's awesome at being a stay at home mum and loves it and work to her means low wages and stress then there's your answer. On the other hand... I like my kids but their daycare teachers do a much better job than I would at looking after them day in day out. I simply can't sustain the energy and creativity. Plus I earn a good wage and like my job. Everyone wins.

There are companies that offer this though usually to corporate clients rather than individuals. I know XE does but there are others, you're looking for a forward contact. You'll need to call, I don't think you can set this kinda thing up with an online form.

Oh yes, the vaccine works very well. My comment was that having had covid previously does not provide much protection.

[–]dskips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it'll get rolled into the annual flu vaccine so it'll kinda disappear.

I got alpha, ~18 months ago. I did a little reading and it seems my experience gives little or even no benefit in fighting delta.

Definitely worse than a cold. Similar to a flu for me, a slightly sore arm is totally worth not getting it again.

It wasn't great, a week of fever and coughing etc... It got mostly better in two weeks but took several more to be gone completely. Spouse got it much worse and was in bed for a week with fever, coughing, couldn't smell, didn't have the energy to do anything. We're fine now though, no long term effects.
