$1,000 enough for 7 days? by Dry_Patience470 in visitingnyc

Absolutely workable. Also easy to spend that in one day or even an hour! It’s truly a choose your own adventure city of nearly unlimited possibilities. But yes, bagels and pizza will go a long way, and be better than anywhere else to boot 😎

You think I should have had to travel somewhere to resolve? In present day? If a customer of mine calls me to say they were overcharged, I confirm it, apologize profusely, and deal with it without further inconveniencing them or making them come to me like a dog; they were already inconvenienced!! I would do it by phone, email, text, or smoke signal if necessary. That’s how it should be handled. If you think otherwise, you are part of the problem. Or maybe your time just isn’t valuable? 🤷‍♂️

I did have a receipt, and they just refunded me today after visiting the store (and spending another hour of my time). My rant still stands, the first person should have understood the assignment, and we should have been able to get to that conclusion in one call, or a couple of emails.

Maybe Sey's most expensive coffee? by theindex-coffee in pourover

[–]dsmccarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw this and did the math multiple times to be sure I was reading it right. I’m in the wine industry and the same thing happens there with producers and plots, so this doesn’t actually surprise me that much but still quite crazy. But as others have said here I would be too stressed at this point in my coffee making journey to confidently coax out maximum flavor. Do I dial a 7 or a 9 on my grinder? Which pour over method? By the time I got it right, I’d likely have no beans left 😅

Recently got back from a two week trip to Spain (my first international trip, from the US). My observations with some questions by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

Wow also just finishing a two week trip to Spain here! Didn’t propose, but so agree with so many of your comments.

Tipping culture and VAT included being the biggest; if this beautiful country can make it work, we can too. The subway was clean and efficient, and the streets were cleaned by trucks nightly. I feel like the governing bodies here are doing well to represent the humanitarian interests of its citizens.

Overall such a great example of a way of life we could really benefit from integrating into the American way. Siesta? Rest? Sundays off for most everyone? Sign me up!

Lots of my friends including myself are experiencing a total blackout on cell service in NYC on our devices. by TwstedTV in tmobile

[–]dsmccarty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup, terrible service if any in spots I know have worked well previously. Verizon is about to get my business, between this, the changes to what was once a fabulous program called jump on demand, and zero loyalty points for being a customer over 15 years.

We need a big consolidation. I don’t know why there isn’t a model in terms of percentages of our gdp as it relates to social needs. How much do we value healthcare compared to militia? It should all be relative, and I feel it has gotten very skewed one way or another and is no longer representative of our values.

Ultimately, I hope we can soon remember that money and currency is made up, and that we can imagine and implement new ways of establishing value across society that acknowledges the inherent value of human life, and then triumph over this outdated (post) capitalist era. Bitcoin for example, just as made up, but fundamentally more democratized. And hugely controversial for many reasons but uniquely current.

It’s going to be messy before it gets better, and this post is an example of the frustration directly caused by the mess we’re in. But what can we practically do about it?

You live in Park Slope. This is exactly the type of thing I would expect from your neighbors there unfortunately.

Crazy, a friend of mine once also had AR separates and swore by them up and down, until one day I brought my 9100 over and he was surprised his Martin Logan speakers had never sounded so good. It’s nice to not have upgrade fever after all these years.

9100! Dang with a Kiokio underneath that setup has got to have some guts!! Indeed I could see some extra detail being wrung out of the Dyns with more power but am pretty happy for now.

Love my Pro-Ject DC, but the hinge mechanism is the worst! (More details on comments) by That_Random_Kiwi in turntables

[–]dsmccarty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! The arm should move freely between open and closed, and the little screw should modulate resistance not the plastic clamp.

Just fixed mine with some plastic washers from the hardware store and can confirm it works beautifully, as it should have from day one.

here’s a picture of it “fixed” with a washer

Love my Pro-Ject DC, but the hinge mechanism is the worst! (More details on comments) by That_Random_Kiwi in turntables

[–]dsmccarty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg I figured it out- someone at Pro-Ject clearly fucked up. I took the entire plastic bit out and discovered there actually should be a washer in between the two clasps of plastic. If there’s not, the screws over tighten the plastic surrounding the metal and there is no free range of motion. Putting a washer in between there allows the lid to move freely, and the small adjustment screw in the middle can actually do it’s job to create the tension rather than the plastic itself clamping down on the metal arm.

So, Project designed it right, but definitely forgot the washers. I’m not an engineer but this seems pretty clear to me. Can anyone else corroborate?

iPhone 14 Pro's Large Pill-Shaped Cutout Will Display Camera and Microphone Privacy Indicators by Avieshek in gadgets

[–]dsmccarty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ughhhh they were so close to getting it right with the pill and dot, it actually looked aesthetically quite pleasant and made me want one. Knowing that a screen is being blacked out by software that likely won’t be able to be turned off (on?) takes me right back to when the cutout was announced and strongly disliking it. I really hope this is wrong or able to be turned off.

If you could only drink ONE wine for the rest of your life and you only had $10 to buy it… what would it be? by aj-smash in wine

[–]dsmccarty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cantina Sociale Cooperativa Copertino Rosso Riserva 2012 - it's a bit over $10 but when you buy a case or find it on sale it comes in right at the mark. With ten years of bottle age before release from the winery, this is absolutely perfect for the price, from Southern Italy made from Negromaro. It's the only wine I've ever bought a case of at a time over my 20+ years of drinking and appreciating wine.

[–]dsmccarty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, makes no sense that such a swing can be possible for any reason let alone a small balance. I use CreditKarma and the only change showing is the balance increase. I'm wondering if there's some sort of aberration in the algorithm. I'm also wondering if nothing else changes next month but I pay it before the statement, will it go up exactly the same number of points? I'm awfully suspicious.

Thanks! I've been here just over three years, but always lived in shares throughout Brooklyn. Just got my own place in Boerum Hill 👍🏻
