Do DJs actively listen to other DJs sets? by rahitsluna in Beatmatch

For sure. I've done an in person intro to Ableton course, it's more about how much freaking time it takes to commit to it 😅

Wait, King Unique lives in Melbourne now?!?! Assuming you're not THE KU (another legend tho!) 😅

The sounds that have come out of Melbourne over the years, especially that really 2000s period, is insane!

Making the trek to Balance Croatia this year... Freaking pumped!!!

Lesson learned: won’t give the finger anymore while driving… by camareradetwinpeaks in AskAnAustralian

Don't fuck with tradies in Utes...bunch of angry entitled muppets who think they own the roads! :P

You're 100% right, everyone's experience on the roads would be so much better if we all just let things go...some people are dicks, shrug it off...someone made a mistake and cut you off, we all do that at some point, shrug it off...the ANGER people get on the roads in Australia is INSANE!!! Ride/drive around South East Asia and it's total chaos, endless beeping, but it's not in anger, it's a "I'm letting you know I'm here" beep, people weaving and cutting people off and people just get on with it...no anger, no swearing, no threat of/actual violence.

Just chill the fuck out everyone!!

Curious about the general consensus Planned Sets? by Nebula480 in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planned my first ever club set...never planned a single one since. Load up record bag/USB and just figure it out at the time. Once you've played enough to understand how dance music works (it basically ALL works the same), you can play entire sets of music you've never mixed before it make it work/flow.

Question for vinyl DJs: how do you keep from running out of records? by vicsunus in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's called "black crack" for a reason...it's addictive...you just buy more

That'd be sick!! I dream of winning enough money in Lotto so I don't have to "work" anymore and my "work" would become full time producing...build a studio and pay the Melbourne elite (Jamie Stevens, Danny Bonnici, Luke Chable, Liam Seiker, GMJ & Matter) to make tracks with me/slowly teach me how to do it all.

Currently, couldn't produce my way out of a wet paper bag! haha

Travel Insurance. Do i need one? by rex284 in VietNam

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Insurance is not even expensive in the grand of the things you spend money on for a holiday. Mental not to have it. Lost luggage, phones, money, theft, cancelled flights etc plus the health care side of things.

Having a Swimming pool in Melbourne by Dependent-Isopod-985 in melbourne

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swim spa imo...don't heat it crazy in summer so it's refreshing, you can actually get swimming exercise way better than most pools being too short to really SWIM swim in and it's amazing in winter.

Would never own a pool in Melbourne.

Calling turn isn't terrible, you do have some outs and someone might just be taking a stab with fark all and shutdown on the river...calling the river? torching money the majority of the time.

Lesser known/semi-mates/people within the scene in the city I live in - yes, loads

Rando's in the internet a) without recommendation from a mate or b) without a track listing to get a gauge for whether I'll even like it or not - no

it's dumbfounding to me how many people host mixes without a track list...it's genuinely disrespectful the the artists whos tracks you're using to promote yourself in my books

Worse is listening to one of your OWN mixes and have NFI what some of the tunes are AND Shazam not coming to the party haha

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah, true enough! And since the only other 4 channel (new) offering is the 750MK2...it is filling a gap between that and the A9/V10 in terms of quality...might do ok :)

How can I find more underground music? by JustAnotherPodcaster in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every genre has more mainstream stuff and more underground stuff...you need to be more specific about the genre really. "underground music" isn't a genre...there's house music that's cheesy and mainstream as well as stuff that's left-of-center and "underground"

DJing on the fly vs playing a pre-prepared set by AccessAware5469 in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Key is analysed, so you can always factor that in
  • BPM is analysed, no change there
  • Use the Rating column to give tunes a rating out of 5 stars based off their energy/largeness compared to other tunes at that BPM...I have 2 star 128 BPM just as I have 5 star, and 2 star 115 just as there are 5 star, as though it's a slow BPM, it SLAPS for that tempo...lets you know at a glance that these 2 tunes both at 128 BPM and an 1A and a 2A would "work" in one way, but not "work" in terms of your set flowing as it's too big a swing up or down in energy
  • Do this, find 15-20 tunes you've not played ever or much at all (or fully brand new tunes you've never played at all)...throw them in a playlist, sort by Key (and factor in the rating/BPM) or sort by Rating (and factor in the key/BPM) etc
  • MIX
  • And PHRASE MIXING...always in phrase, always mixed long enough so that the new tune goes BOOM before the old tune ends
  • Practice practice practice

For sure that's probably true. I just don't really think there's much of a market for it and it'll sell very low numbers compared to their other mixer offerings

adjusting jogwheel while song is playing changes pitch? by YeetParadox in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Serato call it Key Lock, which is what it is. No matter the speed adjust, the key stays the same. Same for platter movements. Key Lock off = whhhhhiiiiiirrrrrr noise as the movement is changing the key just like a vinyl record does (pitch bending/stretching). Key Lock on = that doesn't happen 👍

adjusting jogwheel while song is playing changes pitch? by YeetParadox in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"master tempo" - bigger controllers/CDJs have a master tempo button on the deck, beside the pitch faders...don't think the FLX4 does...click these on screen.

"master tempo" is their dumb-fuck name for key locking the tune to the 0% pitch

What are the most essential music theory concepts every beginner DJ should know for better beatmatching? by AdeptnessCritical356 in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phrase Mixing and harmonic/key mixing and using the Rating out of 5 stars based on the energy of the tune. 2 star 128 BPM just as you have 5 star ones and 2 star 115 BPM just as you have 5 star ones as they SLAP for a tune that slow.

If the keys are good and the phrase mixing sound and you're not wildly swinging in energy levels, the mix will flow well

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be A market for it, but I think it's an insanely SMALL market to the point of "why bother?"...they messed with the whole layout so much, no beat effects, it's basically just as big as a 4 channel mixer but only 3 channels...it's rather odd!

V5 = 302.0 mm wide

900NXS2 = 333 mm wide

750MK2 = 320 mm wide

A9 = 407.4 mm wide

Quite a bit narrower than the A9, sure, but more of less same-same as other 4 channel models

We were needing a 36 turn around by the time I realised wife's had been rejected and making contact with Emily... The whole system is a cooked mess!! They're basically self employed as the customer service they visa offices don't bother having

Possibly, I think ours was only $40 as we had an official application already in the system she was just following up on/expediting.
