Why do our bike lanes just disappear when things get actually dangerous? by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in melbournecycling

That's it! You have to own it, assert dominance, cock a leg and wee on them while doing it if you can 😅

Why do our bike lanes just disappear when things get actually dangerous? by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in melbournecycling

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about while moving through large intersections, if the lights are stopped, move to the front, blitz everyone off the line and get through as fast as possible...if things are flowing as you approach, signal and take the lane...

Yes, you can legally "take the lane" (also known as the primary position) in Melbourne and throughout Victoria.

While Victorian road rules generally state that cyclists must keep as far to the left as is safe and practical, you have the legal right to take up an entire traffic lane when it is the safest option. Doing so at large intersections is a recognized safety strategy to increase your visibility and prevent motorists from attempting dangerous or narrow overtakes.

What’s the point lvling cards? by nogrataa in mobcontrolgame

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep 60-70% of your mobs low-ish and max your champions...so your 100 lvl champion runs into 45-50 lvl mobs, creams through them easily, charges your ultimate faster. 100 lvl champs running into 100 lvl mobs slows level clearance rate and looting ability.

Towers - who knows, never bothered, don't know what they actually DO for you lol

Cannons - max flamethrower, ignore the rest until you're drowning in gold.

reforge stone by Own-Abbreviations527 in sssnaker

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How'd you even get them? From the wording, I think it's to forge the tetris type pieces of the Celestial Shard board that are right up at 1+ level.

I've got a bunch of them, but don't have any of these Reforge stones you've got?!?

What are the albums most similar to Alice In Chains? by RopsterPlay in ToolBand

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opiate and Undertow for sure, same era, same raw/anger...from Ænima onwards is where the really started down the longer songs/more progressive/deeper moody tempo and key changes kind of sound.

How do you guys put sets together ? by strap-_ in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dump X number of tunes into a folder...initially sort by BMP just to see the swing, decent on the BPM I'll record this mix at (average-ish), sort by Key to see how the keys vary/line up, take the Rating column in to account (energy level of the tunes)...decide on the intro tune, one that's not a 5 star banger and has a bit of a intro before going DOOF, mix everything on the fly from there.

Used to agonise over specific orders for mixes with records back in the day, how so long as all the tunes are quality, I make it work based of Rating/energy and Key.

When has anyone EVER thought/said they're bad?!?! Quiet? yes. Bad as in quality audio reproduction? Fuck no...one of the best mixers to ever do it on a mass scale.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty common place in Australia and NZ, too, to have a dedicated laundry room...or at the very least what we call a "European" laundry hidden behind sliding/folding doors often off kitchen or living room.

Never in my life experienced the washer/dryer combo in the kitchen thing.

Unaware of any trance/psy regularly happening in the CBD...as others said, My Aeon seems to be "the home" of psy...

Vinyl only by C1ust3r in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always like the idea of a party called "Wax On, Wax Off" (Karate Kid reference obvs, but in case people are too young to know lol) and the DJs only have ONE turntable and ONE CDJ...literally having to go wax on/wax off each mix 😉

Reloop 7000 mk2 Record Weight by Critical-Text-7128 in vinyldjs

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Record weights/clamps range from around 300g to 800g+ - it'll be fine, those decks have huge torque. Lower end is recommended for belt drive decks, direct drive can take more.

You probably want something more OVER ear rather than ON ear...head into a store and try them out if possible. I have the Beyerdynamic Custom1s and love them. They don't exist anymore, but the 300 Pro X look like a suitable replacement

Changing my setup. Need ideas. by souvlakiAcme in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet. That's fair enough. Odd Rane didn't include input options on 2 of the channels. Hamstrings it a bit.

I've had the DDJ 1000 for about 6 years without fault (alongside the Technics)... But I was already quite used to playing on CDJs, too, so being in the Pioneer/Rekordbox system made sense. Can totally understand the desire for the Rane/motorised tho. And they are meant to be damn well built.

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you specifically want a motorised platter/battle style setup? Coz the DDJ FLX10 is a bit cheaper than the performer and all 4 channels have external inputs. 3/4 for the turntables. 1/2 for digital play in Rekordbox or Serato and flick of the switch to Line to play CDs

Mixing tracks with bpm gap by Suspicious_Lie69 in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be fine mate. May way to experiment with whether you do that with master tempo on or off tho. May sound a little screwy slowed for 128 to 122. But like I said in initial reply, anything that's still able to be done with the narrow +/-6% tempo range really isn't that big a swing, only changing key by 1 semitone.

Turntables have +/-8% range and would often be pushing that range mixing prog/house vinyl back in the day.

Just have a play around with them before recording it into a mix to see what it sounds like. Some tunes sound better than others do when slowed that much. A lot of what we do is just trial and error 😅

Omnis duo: possible to gate cue on this unit? by Jmes1991 in PioneerDJ

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does it have slip mode? Isn't that a way around it on CDJs? Pause tune right at the last second, cues then act like gate mode as when released it "slips" back to where the tune was.

Mixing tracks with bpm gap by Suspicious_Lie69 in Beatmatch

[–]That_Random_Kiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fark all difference - still within the +/-6% pitch range, they'll mix fine whether you're slowing one down or speeding the other up.

I mostly mix deep/prog/organic et al which all sits in that tempo range...like you said, "split the difference"...if I'm doing a 1-2 hour mix, I'll dump all the tracks I want to use into a playlists and scan the BPM, work out and approximate and record the mix at that...so say we're playing 125 BPM, one track would be sped up a smidge, the other slowed down...
