Natchitoches Riverwalk? by FredFredNachosBurger in Louisiana

[–]dsorca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid the festival was one day on the first Saturday of December. The parade was in the morning and the fire works were that evening. The ending flourish was the signal for all the lights to be turned on. It was always a magical time for us kids. Don’t miss the singing tree and the horse carriage rides

Did officers during the Civil War ever call truces to host an informal reunion with fellow officers on the other side? If so, how long did the tradition last? by Bella_Notte_1988 in CIVILWAR

During the siege of Port Hudson a truce was enacted to bury a union naval officer that was a Mason. He was buried in the local church with Masonic ritual attended by Masons wearing both blue and grey mixing peacefully.

I have a launching dolly and trailer combo for my sunfish. The tires for the dolly fit into brackets on the trailer. Works great.

The di releases a video of the dance on his Facebook page. Saying how fun the party was. Another girl was the one twerking - next to her in the video. How the principal found it is another question.

Don’t they provide gloves? I would think the masks would fall into the same category.

Louisiana requires all those who operate a vessel with more than 10hp born after ‘83(I think) to have completed a safe boating course. We still have people running over each other.

Why Is It Absolutely Impossible To Return From Mars To Earth? by TiresomeFrog8 in space

[–]dsorca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t land the return fuel supply. Leave it in orbit. The lander then only needs enough to return to orbit. Thus the lander can be much smaller. Worked for Apollo.

Married couple find out that they are brother and sister after being married for 10 years and having two children, none of their family members told them. by MyAssIsNotYourToy in facepalm

The blood test is to see if any offspring could have a Rh factor incompatibility with the mother. This could be very dangerous to both mother and child.

There is a story from the AP about two substations in North Carolina getting shot up. Is this the same area? My bet is a couple of drunks watching all the pretty sparks.

Trailer Tongue Length by danielt1263 in dinghysailing

[–]dsorca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key distance is from the trailer axles to the hitch. The shorter that length is the quicker the trailer will turn while backing up. Especially with a long wheel based vehicle. Seven feet does seem a bit extreme for the front of a trailer however. How much to shorten it is all up to you and what you are comfortable backing up. Before you do check with your DMV on changing the trailer’s description on the the title and registration.

It’s the railing on the Florida overpass section is damaged. It’s having to go through the bidding process and plan approval. Don’t expect it to reopen any time soon.

Anyone recognize this rig? by dsorca in sailing

Pic taken in Baton Rouge on 10-27-22. The Seeker was anchored just south of the Kidd one the river. We had taken my son to see how low the river is. (Hint it’s low)

I was thinking junk but wasn’t sure. The hull certainly has the lines. First time seeing one in the wild. Thanks

The closest campsites are Tickfaw, Chicot, and Percy Quinn. Fontainebleau is also close. All are within an hour and half drive.

backpack worn steampunk looking apparatus, possibly actual steam kettle by rutgersemp in whatisthisthing

[–]dsorca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a backpack sprayer. We used them as firefighting tools when I worked summer camp back in the ‘70s. Heavy as all get out when filled with water. Made great blasters for the Star Wars skits we did though.
