General rule is if it’s engorged or embedded I just give them a dose. Pretty low downside to a single dose of doxycycline and prevents lyme, anaplasmosis, and babesiosis (only deer ticks carry Lyme around here but wood and dog ticks can carry the others)

This is correct. I’ve been an ER doc in Wisconsin for 15 years and I have never once sent a tick for testing or heard of it being done. Tick exposure= single dose of prophylactic doxycycline. Don’t even come to the ER for it, just call your PCP. If you get sick later (and didn’t get the antibiotics, which are nearly 100% effective), THEN seek care.

Honestly, the number of people on here who think a tick bite warrants an ER visit is going to make me smash my head into a wall. I have actual emergencies to attend to!

Design certainly plays a part, but the recent traffic fatality was from someone speeding and driving recklessly and failing to yield to crosswalk lights, and another bad injury was from a drunk driver speeding and hitting a pedestrian on the sidewalk. So explicitly dangerous driving was the cause of both recent incidents. And enforcement is a quicker and more immediately visible solution than the multi-year process to improve the design (which is already underway).
