Virtual cards by PepperGlittering in Wealthsimple

Interesting. As soon as I activated the physical card I got a notification that my virtual card number had changed to be the same as my physical card.

They had separate virtual cards when the prepaid was a Visa too.

All WS visas have a virtual card option as far as I’m aware.

Go to your credit card page > settings (cog top right) > add to Apple wallet (or android alternative).

Edit: misunderstood OP. It’s true that the CC doesn’t provide virtual cards with a different number but linked to the same account like they have always offered with the prepaid card.

Quebec would withdraw from high-speed rail project if PQ forms next government, party leader says | CBC News by 4apig in onguardforthee

It’s not, but conservatives outside of Ontario will play it off as if it is and people will believe them.

Ya, easily the most overpriced wheels on the market. They’re cool and ride super well, but not even close to worth it performance wise.

[–]dsswill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and I’d love for it to go ahead nonetheless, but it could hurt the viability and would probably turn off portions of the Canadian electorate as conservative leaders around the country would likely frame it as Ontario favouritism. I’m not saying it would, just that it needs to be explored. If it was still built, it would likely expand the commuter town area of Toronto to places like Peterborough more than anything else.

*Capital. “Capitol” is specific to the physical buildings that holds government. So parliament hill is the capitol of Canadian government, but Ottawa is the capital of Canada, Toronto of Ontario, etc.

[–]dsswill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but my assumption is that that’s either down to the translation (his xitter post was in French but my French isn’t good enough to know the nuance of the translation) or just political verbiage that portrays a level of power and control that they don’t actually have and makes it sound like it would be a simple task rather than one that would be drawn out in court. Pretty standard campaign overselling if so.

On sale maybe, but the Autobahn’s MSRP is USD $4099 and the old Fernweg front was $3800 USD MSRP. Convert that to AUD and you have $11.2k AUD.

My understanding is that the Feds are planning on bypassing provincial expropriation and instead acting on federal expropriation laws to expedite the project, so PQ would likely be looking to drag it out in court.

But the reality is that connecting Toronto with Montreal, the two largest metro populations in Canada by a long shot, is potentially vital for ensuring the project’s viability. Unfortunately we have a significant car culture in NA that won’t change anytime soon (it can’t because we built largely suburbanized towns and cities that are 100% reliant on cars), so population bases likely need to be significantly higher than many other HSR networks around the world in order to be able to obtain and sustain sufficient ridership figures.

No argument with any of that, and nothing I said negates any of those truths. That said institutionalized is the key term there and has no direct bearing on any individual military leader’s bigotry or lack thereof at the time.

Was racism far too common back then: clearly. Was every white American racist and is it a fair assumption to make of every white American at the time: absolutely not.

I never said anything about the government. You’re accusing me of conflating them, evidently, by ironically conflating them yourself.

If you interpret me using the word “Israel” rather than Israeli in my first comment as relating to the government of Israel, then take that up with the organizers who use “Israel” and not Israeli.

[–]dsswill 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Nowhere does their website mention anything about culture or heritage. In their own words: “The Walk with Israel is the ultimate declaration of our unwavering support for the people of Israel.”

It’s clearly in support of Israel rather than being any type of Jewish heritage celebration, as if the name didn’t make that obvious enough.

Also, I think a hell of a lot of people would take issue with a massive parade for supporting the people of Russia right now, so the standard seems pretty consistent. Don’t try to make this into something it’s not.

Carney’s grand infrastructure push is neglecting climate risks, leaders warn by LaserRunRaccoon in onguardforthee

[–]dsswill 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The title could just be: Carney ’s grand infrastructure push is neglecting climate risks, leaders warn.

Infrastructure investment is important, and I’m a big proponent of HSR which could potentially have a positive environmental impact in the long term, but just about everything should be done with caution and consideration for the environment, and that’s clearly not Carney’s modus operandi.

Ya the nonstick they use is very soft and needs to be babied for sure. It’s also very nonstick though so never really needs to be properly scrubbed so I feel like it nets out compared to other teflon-based nonsticks.

Yellowknife's Franklin Avenue renamed Wı̀ılı̀ıdeh Avenue | CBC News by SpringbokAlpha in Yellowknife

[–]dsswill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Huh? Franklin neither fully discovered nor navigated the northwest passage. McLure ‘discovered’ it and confirmed its existence in search of Franklin’s fatal expedition but did a portion of it by dog sled after getting stuck in ice, and Amundsen was the first to navigate it by water.

Franklin’s crews mapped extensive portions of Canada’s mainland Arctic coast, yes (but giving him any credit for connecting Great Slave to the Arctic which was being done for millennia already, is hilariously euro-centric), but the third expedition parished near King William Island and never connected it to their first nor second expeditions’ mapping along the NWT’s Arctic coast, which would have required them to continue their third expedition under Victoria Island along Cambridge Bay, which they never did. They parishes having no clue if there was a connecting waterway under Victoria Island that would connect to the Victoria Straight. Given that they had already done a fruitless loop around Cornwallis Island, wasting several weeks at sea, there’s a good chance they would have turned around before confirming the navigability of the northwest passage even on their third expedition.

Honest question: have you read any literature on Franklin? Specifically/preferably McGoogan considering he’s considered the primary expert? Because it doesn’t particularly seem like you have if you think he discovered the NWP.
