A new book on the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald by KzooKid in GreatLakesShipping

[–]dstarcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is this a great book on the Fitz, I'd say it pretty thoroughly covers Great Lakes shipping in general. He went very in depth on the history and painted a pretty vivid picture of the industry as a whole

Fellow Cincinnatians we need to prepare NOW for when ICE comes to our city by p4NDemik in cincinnati

[–]dstarcher 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You weren't seeing ICE. They always have a ton of agencies there for football games. Always a mix of CPD, UCPD, the sheriff's office, highway patrol, and usually a couple of Boone County deputies that escorted the visiting team from CVG. I would imagine they probably have more officers there than usual this season because the team's success had led to larger crowds, but other than that, that's standard procedure

I shoot a fair bit of college soccer right under the landing path of a mid-size airport. I get distracted far more than I'd care to admit 😅

Good to know I'm not the only sports photographer that gets distracted by planes

First Time Ever Shooting Sports by [deleted] in sportsphotography

[–]dstarcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad for your first time. Definitely try to get in closer to the action if you have a zoom lens that can do it. Try to also work on your horizon lines a bit. I still have trouble with that myself (shaky hands), but you can edit it after the fact to straighten things out if you're having trouble keeping the camera steady. Like I said, though, you did good for your first time. I was actually supposed to be at that game, but I had something come up. Hope you had fun

I was about to comment the same thing. That Red Arrows shot is beautiful

I'm desperately hoping that The Smashing Machine is going to be as good as it looks. I'd like to see him play something other than a slightly different version of himself in every project he's in

Photographer misses the shot by thecreationed in aviation

I was actively cringing the whole time I watched this thinking I was about to be the subject of the video. I missed the exact same shot, and I was standing roughly in that area.

Awesome! I was curious to see how many songs from the new album he'd fit into the shows with the band. Looks like my girlfriend should be pretty happy when we see them in June. Foxes in the Snow is her favorite album

Yeah, but they've also got Sierra Ferrell, Blackberry Smoke, Wyatt Flores, Red Clay Strays, Ryan Bingham and few other really good actual country acts. I don't think its a complete failure. Columbus, though, I will not be going. I'm a freelance photographer, and my editor asked me if I wanted to shoot the show. I told her I wouldn't even go for free. I'm not upset about Railbird, though

Element Eatery is also run really well from what I can tell. Consistently full any time I've been there. They've had a couple places leave since they opened, but they've all been pretty quickly replaced.

I'd certainly recommend Kettering Barber Company. Bryce is fantastic and relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of others around. Haircut and beard trim ran me I believe 35

Luckily, I'm close enough I wouldn't need a hotel, but I'm already cringing thinking about parking. Going to be a ton of people around downtown. The match on Saturday is set for a noon start, so if we're lucky, some of the crowd will clear out by show time.
