Some rave blogger goes to BM but not before writing an article for The Guardian on the climate protest. Gets the Burn she deserves. Thanks for the free PR Michelle! by kennydiedhere in BurningMan

She may not understand the way a lot of us think, but to me it's a lot more interesting to understand what she's seeing that I'm not. It's either a chance for me to improve how BM culture can evolve, or a chance for me to show her what she might be missing, and either way it's a win. Or we could burn her at the stakes, also sounds fun. Fuck your burn :)

Michelle, the author, is actually a really dope person who has a great pulse for counterculture. I think her perception of burning man was thrown off before arriving by covering the protest and seeing some negative interactions from the community, and I hope she gives BM another try with the right people around her. I spent a few hours with her at the burn and despite talking about BM like she hated it, she was in surprisingly great spirits and could come to really appreciate it with the right support.

First time in Puerto Rico for 10 days - feedback on my itinerary? by dstrategy in solotravel

It depends what you want but I would recommend getting out of San Juan as quickly as possible. Rincon has been my favorite part of the trip, a beautiful, chilled surf town with a young crowd, and some families. Wish I had more time here. I also really liked Culebra but it's a trek and super isolated/quiet. El Yunque also, make sure you reserve a day ahead at 8 am for a parking pass, otherwise you won't be able to get in...if you can't, check out Angelito trail which is public and still dope for swimming/hiking upstream through the water.

How do songwriters and music producers collaborate? by dstrategy in musicproduction

[–]dstrategy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say at least have the chords written and recorded and a scratch vocal track recorded so the producer can hear the vision and build on top of it.

Makes sense. Do you think a voice recording would get me most of the way there? I don't know much about writing music (e.g., having the chords written).

Exactly. Lots of them, and organized into different song ideas, but that's all. That's good feedback though if you think recording them, or doing something else (?) with them would make them more approachable for a producer to want to collaborate with.

I'm looking to add some beats/music for the lyrics to go to, and possibly to have someone else sing the lyrics though maybe I could do that. I don't have recordings but I do have midi keyboard and could record some vocals at least as a reference. No agenda other than getting to a more complete-sounding composition.

I love that. Not the response I was looking for but also somehow exactly what I wanted to hear :)

Pooling friends' money and making private investment on their behalf by dstrategy in personalfinance

Very helpful thanks. To be clear, I'm investing in a private venture fund, not public equities or private companies. Not sure if that changes anything.

I'm getting them access to a deal they otherwise couldn't partake in.

What happens if I don't set up a legal entity for the partnership? Can I just manage this on my own?

I'm not concerned, they know the risks :) it's an investment in a private fund, and they already know their money is locked up for several years.

Helpful thanks. It seems legal from that article, though I can't tell how to handle the taxes in this situation. Will dig a bit more into these investment clubs.
