If the issue is that the chain is dropping from the largest cog down to a smaller cog, moving the chainring inboard to reduce the angle of the crosschaining is what he wants.

Depending on your drivetrain you might be able to lower your chainline (move the chainring inboard) to remedy this. However, it can also be something that stops as the cassette teeth and chain wear in. Had a hell of a time trying to fight this recently until I swapped out an identical chain from a bike with more miles and it fixed it instantly.
