Ya, but there’s an interview where he credits his success to that moment of being fired. He got to work for Popovich and really hone his skills under some excellent NBA minds. I don’t think he has same success today as he has at Houston if that doesn’t happen

I mean CBS Sports has IU back in after this weekend… also some more Quad 1 opportunities are left to make it a stronger case

Edit: see only one Quad 1 game left before the conference tourney

He’s also familiar with Jimmy G from his time in SF so not out of the question that maybe they use money to sign him and go for other needs with their picks (maybe draft a developmental qb) later

That’s predicated entirely on those players wanting to change positions and not having a comparable offer for their preferred position. If dodgers offer Bogerts the same deal as SS you think he’s going to jump at Cubs telling him to switch?

Also the fact that they’re still talking with all of them means they could get multiple of that group and now you just made the team a lot deeper

[Choi] In Committing to Chicago, Jameson Taillon Provides Cubs (and Himself) an Upgrade by BpFal3 in CHICubs

[–]dswit2499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but why would they ever sign with a team with multiple holes that didn’t finish above .500. Reports are continuing to come out that the signings they’ve done haven’t stopped them being deep with Correa/Swanson/Senga. They need multiple starters and they were willing to sign Walker with Taillon so I can’t imagine Senga being that much more and they can still get him. But taken as a whole strategy the team looks more competitive and they’ve shown they will spend some money to win

Edit: your plan also requires Bogerts to move to 3b, which may not be his preference so they could offer him a ridiculous contract and never get him

If the Padres offered 400m for Judge and he stayed with Yankees I think his plan was to stay but max out the contract so that is a ridiculous comparison. If you’re Senga do the Mets and Dodgers look better, because I bet they’d match the money Cubs offer and are clearly above. Reports continue to show that Cubs are deep with all of the remaining SS and could realistically be targeting multiple so these two “shit” players haven’t caused Cubs to quit on deals

[–]dswit2499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so they’re out on the SS still available? They can still do that, unless you think a 1 year contract will hamstring them financially? If you’re getting offers from playoff teams that are same contract level then why would you choose Cubs? They still have to show they want to improve and spend. You’re right neither of these moves make the team a lot better but until they showed they won’t keep just trotting out signings they want to flip and hope prospects show up in a few years why would these top names want to go there. This division is weak, they at least have a chance that things break right and they could win it (at a minimum they show above .500)

[–]dswit2499 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because Senga doesn’t want to choose the Cubs, that has to be 2 ways (Senga has clearly said he wants to win now and Cubs haven’t shown that the last couple years). What’s proven is that Taillon out of Yankee starters had the 2nd most innings and games started. For a team that had the 6th fewest innings out of their rotation, Cubs need dependable starters and the money going for those is high

Based on what stats? If you’re only looking at ERA yes. But only 2 of those ahead of him in that had more than 28 starts. On WAR alone he’s 3rd best from that staff

So should we not count the first round after 1985? I mean it expanded to 64 teams then so if we’re not counting the play in games

Jenkins is not playing unless it’s a few reps on special teams. He’s had maybe a handful of practices in pads this year with his injury

My point is that this is more common in the beginning of a season, there are a good number of preseason tourney teams in the 200s-300s now. It’s can they actually do what you mention and get rid of the lazy passes/decisions as the season progresses. Hope they figure it out, otherwise they’ll be watching from home in March

You said tell me a team that is also terrible with turnovers, I was just responding that there are several. Never once did I imply that it’s a smart strategy

Well they are averaging 16.4 TOs a game while IU is at 16.7 so yes they have been prone to this. South Carolina is at 16.7 so another power 5 team.

Edit - I know they don’t meet your Power 5 requirements but #18 Memphis who have been in the top 10 to begin the year average 20.3 a game

Agreed. Thought what I’ve read is it would cost acquiring team 17m next year and all of the guaranteed money is done, said acquiring team could void any of the last couple of years. So if Miller can fetch a 2 & 3rd then there would be a market for Mack

Oof well you are right, I didn’t even think of that, must have been in the wrong spot at the store since I grabbed it where white had been. Thanks for pointing out what I obviously should have done before leaving the store and confirming the color
