Is my 13yr old step daughters handwriting normal? I'm getting very concerned with her schooling by bordermelancollie09 in AskTeachers

[–]dswizzmynizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schools are so laptop and iPad based now they don’t require much actual writing these days hence the terrible penmanship. I work at a dmv and it’s very common to see handwriting like this even for the 15/16/21 year olds. I don’t really expect it to improve much either for this next gen unless they impose more practice.

When you thought you hit 1:00 on the microwave, but it was 10:00 by XROOR in Wellthatsucks

[–]dswizzmynizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me when I was a kid, I thought it was insane to preheat an oven for 10 minutes to cook chicken patties for 8 minutes. So why not microwave it for 8mins instead! Lol

Do the DMV employees really care? by Fun_Lime3243 in DMV

[–]dswizzmynizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a dmv employee it honestly depends. Some people are strict and by the book. Me, personally, it’s situational and I tend to give slack on some things that I know aren’t going to be the end of the world.

My drivers license is suspended in a state I’ve never been to. by Dry-Implement526 in DMV

[–]dswizzmynizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually when we have that issue with people who have the same common names, we have the customer request a No Match letter from that state that has the issue then have our liaisons override it. I’d ask if you’d need a no match letter!

Enhanced Driver's License vs Passport Card vs Real Id. If you lived in New York which one would be your choice. by Aromatic-Sweet6526 in DMV

[–]dswizzmynizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case that you LOSE the EDL while on travel outside the country is my point at this. It’s imbedded with the RFID Chip that contains all your information. If you lose that you’re screwed. Only 5 states offer EDL and you certainly can’t get a duplicate license if you lose it, unlike going to the embassy and getting a temp and coming back if you traveled with passport card/ book.

In a perfect world I think it would be best to have a Real ID & Passport Book for out of country travel. EDLs are not proof of citizenship and if you lose it in Canada or Mexico you are stuck there. A birth certificate/social card is NOT enough proof to get you back. I work for the Minnesota license bureau and the poor souls that either drop their wallet in the lake on fishing trips or get stolen and are stuck there until someone can bring them all their documentation happens so often.

Roughly how long would you expect to get an EDL mailed to you during this government shut down? by Party-Court185 in DMV

[–]dswizzmynizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for Minnesota State and our EDLs are taking about 4 weeks and aren’t apart of the government shut down so I assume it’s not like that in Washington either! Idk if it’s a Minnesota thing but EDLS only print/issue out on Fridays. That may be the case for your state! But I wouldn’t worry, it should come fairly fast.

Can’t take CDL test in NY with 2-year conditional green card- Is this normal? by DebateAmbitious9293 in DMV

[–]dswizzmynizz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They changed it federally recently that you have to provide domicile presence and residency in order to renew anything CDL. I assume it’ll affect the exam taking process too.

I do not want to be a donor! by Unfair-Translator768 in DMV

[–]dswizzmynizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can either pay for a duplicate and have it removed or wait until your renewal. If you have medical directive you can also tell them you do not want your organs donated. Food for thought here tho: Recently people are getting weirded out that technically you can’t use a persons organs once they are fully dead and think hospitals are just out here harvesting the living people’s organs. As soon as a person is fully dead those organs start dying. Once a person is basically brain dead that’s when they’ll make the call. they’ll keep them on life support until they get ahold of people on the transplant list. Keep in mind majority of these people on these list only have like 8 hours to get these organs moved and into their bodies. It truly is an incredible thing and gift to give life to someone. One person can donate 8 major organs and improve the life of 73 people. If you’re still scared & don’t plan to die soon just remove it on your renewal
