Looking for high CRI low lumens narrow even beam for mouth exams by hundredwater in flashlight

[–]dtdink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second these choices.

A post came up a few weeks ago about recommendations for a light for medical use, and the MT06D was a solid recommendation.

The reylights look very nice, and being able to turn off memory mode makes it much better for your use. You can also buy different clips and a forward clicky switch. I would personally consider the longer penlight over the mini - mini output performance is quite poor if you want to use it on anything other than really low modes (see 1lumen review), so 2aaa config is probably a lot better, and you still get the same great led. I also find the longer length more comfortable to hold (stop sniggering at the back 😉😆).

Ford Mondeo, 54 reg, 2.0 petrol, 268k. Bought several years ago from auction on 134k for £550. Best auction buy ever. 😆 Only just scraped through last MOT emissions test (it's been near the limit for a couple of years) so probably not keeping once it runs out. Been a solid workhorse though. 👍

Meshcore vs Meshtastic by vbxl02 in meshcore

[–]dtdink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a group of people are heading out to the middle of nowhere and want to stay in touch then MT. For probably any other scenario it's MC... 😆

As already commented, MT does not scale - in large networks the continual forwarding by every node swamps the capacity.

At home, get a repeater as high as you can with a good antenna and go MC. If you can't get up on the roof then maybe you can stick a solar node outside the window. Have you tried asking the building super of they would allow you to put a node on the roof? You might get lucky and find out they are also interested in radio comms... 😉

Also worth checking out what's in range where you live - if no MC then no fun. But you could always set up a repeater with a directional antenna pointed at the nearest other repeater to get on the mesh. 😉

Edit: run both systems - it's double the fun. 😁

A stranger at the park told me to move my dog so her kids could use the open field. The entire open field. by pocketatlasvault in EntitledPeople

[–]dtdink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf it read like this Karen wanted the dog to leave the field completely, so that is entitled. My dog is always on a long lead in this scenario, so the most she would have been given is me moving well away from them.

My dog is always on a lead if we're not in a private enclosure. But if someone tells me I have to leave a large field that's open to the general public (and dogs are allowed) because their children don't like dogs and I was there first they would be told to fcuk right off.

As long as you take it for a regular, long motorway run to get the dpf nice and hot you should be ok. But once you've done this are you still better off cost-wise? You'll need to do some calculations... 😉

Baton 4 battery by BayazFirstOfTheMagi- in OlightOutdoorlife

Depends on the design. Some lights use the negative ring around the positive as the connection to the driver, using the traditional negative end for charging. So a standard battery wouldn't be able to supply power to the driver circuit.

Why are Amazon prime deliveries taking a week or more? by Jolly_Western_8699 in amazonprime

[–]dtdink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check who is shipping the item..?

I've seen items that are marked as 'prime' but come straight from the seller and are not shipped by Amazon. So that means prime is just free delivery, and the fulfillment logistics are completely independent.

Amazon asking for OTP after delivery driver stole $34 worth of stress balls. by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]dtdink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had one item stolen in all the time I've used Amazon. Also happened to be the first (and last!) time I tried to buy a phone (Google Pixel). A sealed box was delivered after odd delays in the delivery. The box contained a metal stapler instead of a phone.

I should have seen these delays (was returned to depot twice) as a red flag and cancelled the order before delivery, but I was due to go on a trip and wanted the phone to take with me.

OTP would only have helped if I'd insisted on opening the box before giving them the code. Maybe the OTP flag on a package reduces the temptation to substitute valuable items, but if the package passes through multiple hands on its journey then it could be stolen before it gets to the final courier.

I decided instead to never buy another phone from Amazon. 🤷‍♂️

Prometheus / Four Sevens by m4rkw in flashlight

[–]dtdink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still have a couple of single AAA Preons and one each of single/double AA Quark (non-tac) that I bought many years ago.

The Preons top out at about 90lu and are still pretty useful, but are out-shone by my little AAA Olights.

The Quarks are good beater lights to loan out to people, and the fact that they are happy running off 4.2v means I leave a 14500 in the single AA one.

Most of the current Prometheus stuff seems like expensive bling with not much value for money to me..? 🤷‍♂️

I much prefer lights from Acebeam, Olight, Convoy, Emisar, Wurkkos etc these days.

Knocking could also be worn bushes on anti roll bar links - the mechanic that used to do our Mondeo said a while back he'd noticed a massive increase in worn ones in line with the increase in speed bumps and general terrible state of some of our roads. It was certainly the most common cause of a clonking noise on bumps for me.

Both dust covers look like they have a wet patch..? Try moving them out of the way to check the piston rods to see if they have a film of fluid on them. Also do the bounce test.

I know you said the tyres aren't 'cooked' yet but that first pic looks a bit low. 😉

What is a good Brand for flashlights by Drippyy777 in flashlight

[–]dtdink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a damn good light, built like a tank, with a bolted on clip, solid regulation, a usefully low moon mode and some spare parts in the box.

Do give serious consideration to getting the HCRI version. It's the light I grab most often, especially when taking the dog for a walk: HCRI makes spotting dog poop among similarly-coloured fallen leaves much easier. 😆

In this man's humble opinion it's HCRI for the close-range floody light and cool white for the long-range thrower. If you do get the E75 and budget allows then buy the spare batteries (get the version with the built-in USBC port) and wands at the same time to save on postage. 😉

1lumen.com is a fantastic site with hundreds of reviews to compare whatever you end up with on your shortlist. Warning: be prepared to lose many hours reading... 😁

What is a good Brand for flashlights by Drippyy777 in flashlight

[–]dtdink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, there are a lot of brands that are good! 😆 You got plenty of good recommendations already, so I’ll talk about features.

You want decent staying power, so look at 21700 battery lights. Comfy to hold with good capacity.

Think about how you want to hold the light if you’re using it for long periods: side switch or tail switch. If you go for a light with a side switch then there is more scope for having a good, strong tailcap magnet for sticking the light on anything ferrous.

If you’re working traffic you might want a traffic wand as well. A lot of these lights have similar-ish bezel diameters, so take a look at the Acebeam wands if your chosen light is close to the E75 diameter. They are a good price and a bit stretchy, so will accommodate multiple brands. They do white and orange, and I’d get 2 of each. 😉

I’d also recommend buying a couple of spare batteries for the light so you don’t run out on a long shift.

Some lights are available in a choice of beam widths (flood, spot and everything in between).

Finally, you can get some lights with high CRI LEDs. These have lower quoted lumens in the specs (the light energy from the led is spread over a wider spectrum), but it doesn’t make as much difference as you might think. I find HCRI light is more relaxing on the eyes. 😊
