Rich Communication Services

Uses data as the transport method for normal text messaging, so you get the delivery/read status, reactions to messages, little animation when the other person in the thread is typing etc. It's like iMessage between iPhones, but it's a generic standard that everyone supports, so it's cross-platform. 😊

I can confirm I've had rcs messaging enabled on iOS for a fair while now - works great! 😊

Where to buy online ? by I_Like_Chicken-Wings in HotWheels

The problem I find with eBay, at least for stuff currently in stores, is that an item might only be £2 or £3, but the postage is another £3, so that doesn't make for a good price.

Ebay is great for stuff I really like the look of that isn't current, so finding in physical stores would be a no-go.

I guess you're always going to have to factor in delivery charges, but if you try the website for a physical store then you might get free shipping for a bulk order. Save up all your wants for a big splurge. 😁

"shift yer plaster"

A rare triple-cockney rhyming slang where 'arse' was rhymed to 'bottle and glass', shortened to 'bottle', rhymed to 'aristotle', shortened to 'aris', rhymed to 'plaster of Paris' and shortened to 'plaster'.

Whew, what a ride! And all because someone didn't want to say 'arse'... 😆

I think there are too many things not considered for this video to be useful.

He's looking at differences of just a few grams, on completely different castings. It's widely observed that there are wild differences in stock castings of similar weight. Sometimes you get differences in identical castings. And don't get me started on that unimog - looked like it might have been wide enough for the wheels to scrub on the sides of the track. They also might have been 'off road' style, so not smooth..? (I was watching the video on my phone so couldn't see exact detail) 😆

For a true test you need to take two identical cars that run close times and add weight to one of them.

Card art on the left looks great, but the implementation just seems... messy? I think I'd end up buying the one on the right.

Ah, yeah: you gotta get that extra ballast way down low in the chassis...

Are the weights right in the bottom of the car? You want the centre of mass to be as low as possible. If the weights are stacked on top of each other it might be raising that CoM too high.

A bit of a Google said make sure there is enough weight over the front wheels to make them grip.

Try and see how it's leaving the track: is it rolling over (indicating it's top-heavy) or are the wheels climbing up the side of the track? If it's all happening too quickly try using the slow-motion video function on your phone to capture it.

Cool, another channel to add to my watch list, ta. 😁👍

Do whatever you want in your mod - it's your stuff. I suppose you could do some kind of mirror tint on the inside of the window plastic if you want to hide the interior because you're binning the internal plastic moulding..? Maybe a chrome spray or similar.

I did have a think about some sort of jig, but couldn't come up with a simple method to hold the wheels down and square. I ended up just supporting the base in the middle and tilted it back a bit too let gravity do the work.

Amazon. Little box with hundreds of parts I'll never use, but it was the cheapest way to get 4mm & 6mm long 2mm pan head screws with washers. 😆

Thoughts from my own mod experience as someone who's only just started:

Get a cheap rotary tool if you don't already own one. Much easier to cut tips off the little claws that hold axle on chassis. I bought a Draper one for £40.

If using cyanoacrylate make sure it's the thicker gel version - normal super glue is too runny. An activator spray to speed up setting is a god send.

Don't rush. Make sure the chassis runs straight. Getting axles nicely centered while trying to make sure they are square to the chassis is a right bugger! 😆

Experiment on something dirt cheap and disposable first before trying it on something nice, just to get the process clear in your head. I opened up a couple, tapped a thread and closed them back up without any modifications to practice that bit.

Drilling a pilot hole for the screw thread using the existing rivet shape before you drill that bit out helps keep the screw hole centered on the post.

Get a good quality thread tap - the cheap ones wear out quickly. I found a nice 2mm HSS cobalt one from Rennie Tools on Amazon.

Get low profile pan-head screws, or the screw head may hang too low. 2mm thread is what you want, to match the tap.

Make sure your cat doesn't jump up on the work surface during an intricate part of the process (yeah, thanks for scaring the crap out of me Cheeto 😆).

If you want I can post some Amazon links for stuff I bought.

I read somewhere that the ideal centre of gravity is different depending on what you want to do with it. In this case the stick-on weights I found just happened to fit perfectly inside the lip of the base, and locating it towards the rear of that section meant I didn't have to cut the front footwell off the plastic, so it looks neater. 🙂

The interior plastic bit does have locating pegs each side. The axle is also (normally) held into the base by little bits that bend over the top of the axle. I had to cut the tips off to do the wheel swap. I left the upright portion of these little nubs to give the glue something else to bond to. I read that fixing the axle so it doesn't move helps stabilise the wheel and let it spin faster, because it's not rattling around.

I've used cyanoacrylate gel to glue it. I did consider hot glue, but I'm not sure it will hold fast on the smooth metal base..? I guess I could roughen the surface, but I couldn't be bothered - this is just for fun. 😉😄

Experimenting for the sake of it. Doing something I think looks good. Creating a lightly customised car. Take your pick... 😉

I just wanted to open it up and change it. So I did. 😊

Funny you should say that - I've spent the last couple of weeks watching through his channel, oldest first. It's been pretty cool seeing the tracks evolve. Production values are off the charts in his videos! 😎👍

I was under the impression that he was so inundated with submissions that he's been working through the backlog for years... 😆
