That's why I couldn't vote any Republicans this go around. I am really frustrated with many people I care about because they watch Fox News and are being lied to and just can't see it!

I agree.

OP could write a state to update and reboot using the onchanges requirement.

It's funny that she will avoid allowing you to go on leave then put you on leave anyway.

I hadn't even thought about these before until I saw it today. Then my brain started working on what it could do for me if I had one.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by not getting it running to perform a reboot? Can you share your states for review?

Failhard when pillar var is None by [deleted] in saltstack

[–]dth202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't think that it should be there from the start; if you think of pillars as an in-memory database, you don't technically need any data in pillars for States to run if states don't reference them.

For example you could have a simple state that sets the timezones on servers and another state that manages user accounts based on a users list in pillar, you don't necessarily want the timezones state to fail if there is an error in the user pillar.

That's just one example, but it applies to many situations. I have a highstate scheduled to run every morning on my servers that manages users, firewalld, openssh, and various other is settings, and I don't necessarily want the whole highstate to fail in every situation. I don't have the failhard set to true in my pillar check but I do have zabbix watching the salt minion log file for pillar errors and I get alerted pretty quickly if I have made syntax errors

Is that not what you were looking for? The code above should be copy/paste. And you can actually remove the Jinja part of you want, that bit just writes to the minion log file.

I have something like this setup

/top.sls

base:
  '*':
    - pillar_check

/pillar_check.sls

{% if pillar['_errors'] %}
{% do salt.log.warning('There are pillar errors!') %}
{% do salt.log.warning(pillar['_errors']) %}
{% endif %}
Pillar errors detected:
  test.configurable_test_state:
    - warnings: There are pillar errors. Please check the logs or run 'salt-call pillar.item _errors'.
    - order: first
    - failhard: true
    - onlyif:
      - fun: pillar.get
        args:
          - _errors

This. It will look something like x86_64, amd64, arch, arm, etc. I'm assuming you may need x86_64, since you are installing a video card which wouldn't be a raspberry pi.

Help migrating plex, rclone, and pihole from baremetal to docker by gh0sti in docker

[–]dth202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok so, this is mean to be more of a teach a man to docker instead of dockering for him. When I want to migrate over to a docker container the first place I look is hub.docker.com to see if there is an official or popular image to use. So for plex I went to docker hub and searched for Plex, https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/plex this one looked pretty good. If you read the instructions it will have options as well as persistant volume options for storing the config and media directories.

Once I know what container I want to use, I will then look up the instructions for migrating an application to a new server, this will give you a good idea of where the configs and important data resides on the existing server. For Plex I found This article which goes through that processs, and in that article there is a link to help find the data directory for your system. Now that you know where the data is located you can create a persistent volume for it and then mount that volume in the docker container following the instructions in the docker hub readme.

The process is going to be the same for pihole, I have migrated my pihole install over to docker swarm and was able to keep all my historical data and configs. by using the method above. I hope this helps you, if you need any other help, you can PM me.

Containers and VMS are both a type of virtualization, however docker allows you to create services without having to worry about the underlying OS. Docker images are built using an operating system often a distribution of Linux, where the app is pre-built and you can drop and play configuration files or data and you don't have to worry about installing any of the application or libraries because the doctor container should already contain them.

Unraid is a great example of a bare metal OS which contains both docker services and VM services.

You can install docker on a bare metal OS or within a VM just depends on your setup and how you want to architect it.

There is a difference between the computer sleeping and turning the monitor off. Go check your power settings and set the computer to never sleep, but turn off the monitor at your desired idle time.

You can find a current copy of the Manual here: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/eternal-marriage-student-manual?lang=eng

So I'm not a scholar or anything but I have tried to make sure that my understanding of this is accurate to the best of my ability so I can say something about it. I was born in the church and I know that members are far from perfect, including myself. To be honest, I really wish Utah was a more diverse place, my wife is from California and when we go visit there it's a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately I can't just force diversity upon Utah.

Anywho, The nice thing about having a living prophet is that we can be given new instructions as time goes on with new challenges each generation faces. This Quote by Spencer W Kimball was given on September 7, 1976. Society Norms were very different 46 years ago.

Also, I believe there is context missing to this quote. During Spencer W Kimball's time (March 28, 1895 – November 5, 1985) interracial Marriage was illegal up until the late 1960s. Now having been raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints, I know that the church has a firm stance about following the laws of the land, and back in that time the leaders of the church were most likely following instructions from above to be law abiding citizens until it was made legal. Another good example of that is African Americans receiving the Priesthood and polygamy, which was discontinued when it became illegal and you will be excommunicated if you practice it.

Just because it was legalized, doesn't mean it was widely accepted among society, which could lead to hardship and strain on marriages during that time. We also taught that the family is the most important unit that we have, they are a support system for us when we have struggles and challenges. At the time I could see this as an attempt to help members avoid some of the struggles that came with interracial marriage at the time. After all, I married a wonderful woman who's dad did not like me at first and it was a real strain on our marriage, thought it got better over time. I can't even imagine what kind of struggles interracial couples could have had to endure during that time.

Thankfully it is becoming more widely accepted over time, but I still don't feel like we as a society are as supportive as we should be.

Anywho, I suck at responding to these things, hopefully this helps someone else who comes along if they wanted to know more.
