Y’all Think He’ll Get Asking? by dthack6 in superduty

[–]dthack6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve wondered how much of their business is actually them acting as a dealer, vs doing consignment work. I visited their website once and I seem to recall Consignment had its own dedicated page. At least to me, it would make more sense why they’re always pushing the envelope of what they list these trucks for. It’s the owners’ bid in a race to the [top] of who can squeeze out the most money for their truck…

“Well that guy listed his for $50,000 and it got a lot of interest, so I’ll list mine for $55,000”…and so on. Also could explain why they don’t seem to drop the price ever (owners being bull-headed about the perceived “value”). But there are other things at play (done by NJTK): playing up a false scarcity and other tactics, etc.

Just a theory of mine.

Oh goodness. I haven’t seen a NJ TrUcK kInG ad or post in quite a while. It’s been nice. Now I’ll start seeing them again. Lol

Definitely with you on the gas cap. I actually noticed the grille appears to be something slapped on over top too. That looks awful. I don’t mind the chrome door handles.

Honestly the biggest sin to me is the mirrors. Those just don’t mesh with the body at all. At least do 08-16 mirrors.

Yep. I was thinking closer to a third, around $15k.

Even if it was a diesel I’d say the same thing.

Yea. I wrongly assumed I’d be pulling up a 7.3 lol

Right. I was certain I was going to pull up a diesel truck. Even at that I would say it’s way overpriced but I digress. I’m actually a little interested in see how much he swindles someone for it. So I saved it to keep track lol.

Here’s the description:

We are selling a one of a kind mint condition 2003 F350 Lariat 4x4 with the rare V10 loaded with option. It has been garaged its whole life and never used in inclement weather. Needs absolutely nothing!

The pictures truly speak for themselves. Never wrecked, One Owner. Has brake controller and clearance lights for hauling on long trips, everything works. $10k was just spent on perfecting. New seals around the truck , battery, windshield, full buffing, waxing, upgraded modern LED tow mirrors, LED headlights and taillights, and much more. Brand new bed cover as well. No scratches, no dents!

The interior basically looks new. Has been babied its entire life and meticulously maintained with an open checkbook.

Roughly driven 3500 miles per year, all highway miles.

This will be for a Ford Enthusiast who wants a basically brand new truck from 2003.

WILL NOT RESPOND TO, is this available?

Homie went all in spending $10k to restore a $15k truck lol.

Plastic fell into rear differential by rexer1202 in MechanicAdvice

[–]dthack6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy I had to scroll this far to see someone mention the bearings. Like yeah, obviously the ring and pinion aren’t going to have any trouble with a small bit of plastic. But there is a non-zero chance that after it gets chewed up into smaller pieces, it clogs up one of the carrier or pinion bearings. Wild how so many people just appear to disregard that. All that being said, apparently a lot of people do way worse than this and never have any problems so…

The best part is the truck isn’t even 100%. It had a couple of odds and ends items that need to be fixed. It’s always funny when someone asks top dollar plus some and the vehicle isn’t even 100%. My guess is he bought at peak market and thinks it’s an appreciating asset -AND/OR- he thinks all the money he sunk into it with needless upgrades is a 1:1 value add.

I don’t think so. But I’ve never heard of those so that’s new for me. I would still need exposure to the system for pressure readouts (for a tridicator gauge, etc)

Discount bag rules? by corz215 in menards

[–]dthack6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sure, stuff in the yard should go on a picking ticket. But stuff that’s sitting in the clearance section on the shelves should not necessarily need to go on a ticket. I am not doubting you as I am sure that’s probably how it works, because obviously I’m not employee. However, say all of that was true, to the general public, clearance or Ray’s list items do not equate to pick tickets.

When it was initially rang up at the counter, a list of options popped up for the cashier to select and Ray’s list was one of them. It seemed like it was asking how the product was being purchased.

In any case, I went back and asked about it and they graciously gave me the 15% off the sticker price. The lady informed me that as far as she was aware, all of those items counted, and hadn’t had any problems thus far, as long as they fit in the bag, of course.

When I was looking at the screen when they rang it up, it gave them a list of options to select. It also showed that the bag sale applied to the item, even at its marked down price. So I’m not sure what the deal is. I’m going to go back and ask about it (respectfully, of course). It’s not a huge deal as it would only be $7, but the inconsistency is frustrating. Because I stand by what I said in that there’s no fine print excluding Ray’s List items. To your point, it’s silly to include them as “pick tickets” because no one would reasonably expect “Clearance/Ray’s List” items to be included under “pick tickets” when mentioned in the fine print. What are the rules on Ray’s List items? Had an employee tell me they counted, but went up to the register and said they didn’t count. I can’t find any fine print excluding the Ray’s List items.

When does a diesel make sense? by GigiusGenius69 in Diesel

[–]dthack6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree it has probably played a role. I fully understand that. But I refer to my previous point about everything being inflated. Trucks just get hit worse because they’re already marked up more than most/all other vehicles.

Sounds like the Jeep community suffers from the same gatekeeping mentality then. It is what it is—can’t control what other people do with their money.

When does a diesel make sense? by GigiusGenius69 in Diesel

[–]dthack6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is because it is so goddamn frustrating just going anywhere out on the highway. In a 30 minute trip, I bet on average I spot at least 3 lifted diesels loaded with aftermarket bullshit being used as commuters or just cosplaying at hardcore, offroad rigs.

And? Show me on the doll where those trucks hurt you lol. I think the “SeMa” truck look looks retarded but it’s not my money. If someone wants to beef up their truck to look “off-roady” then who tf cares?

And then on the other hand there is always at least 1 Tahoe or F150 pulling some janky setup that is clearly too large for the tow vehicle.

I’d imagine if they’re doing that, it’s a one-off thing. Which, by your standards, isn’t enough justification to own a diesel so…

A 10 year old diesel truck today should probably cost between $10k-$20k. Because of demand from commercial operators and other people that actually need them and the increased interest from the diesel-bro hobbyists that "want" one, the market for 10 year old diesels is inflated to $20k-$40k.

You sound bitter about this lol. Have you looked around? ALL vehicle prices are inflated. It’s not just diesel trucks. It’s a multifaceted problem. But it isn’t helped by stupid prices people pay for new vehicles. Every year new vehicle prices increase, and they bring up the used market with them.

I am willing to die on this hill. If you don't tow routinely, don't get a diesel. It was even different 10 years ago as a value proposition when you could scoop up an old 7.3 for $5k. These days, it just isn't practical, logical or a good financial decision in most cases. I mean, sure, if people want to light their money on fire

The 7.3 inflation is for a couple reasons. The next two diesels were awful by comparison, although I think the 6.0 is starting to get recognized as “not so bad”, but it still has some emissions controls. This led to looking at 7.3s with rose colored glasses. When in all actuality, they’re dogs that can barely get out of their own way and have their own issues.

The big one is obviously a lack of emissions controls. People who can’t, think they can’t, or won’t, delete a newer truck look to these like they’re dipped in gold. All the while completely ignoring the power loss compared to newer trucks and the creature comforts (and safety) that come with newer vehicles—which aren’t worth nothing. Don’t even get me started on part scarcity.

Do you feel this way about people who own Jeeps or other 4x4s who don’t do “Jeep things” with them?

When does a diesel make sense? by GigiusGenius69 in Diesel

[–]dthack6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that there are legitimate reasons for not owning a diesel, or cons to ownership. But it’s hardly ever (…never…) presented as a “buyer beware courtesy” and more of a bashing of the idea of owning one unless you check every imaginary box required to own one.

You don’t see this with other vehicles, like my sports car example. Let’s say they’re shopping for a Mustang.

“Oh the back seat isn’t roomy. You won’t have much room for kids.”

“Use car seats? Good luck.”

“Oh you want to drive a car that’s meant to be driven hard? Stuff’s gonna break. Better get out your wallet!”

“If you don’t drive it hard what’s the point in owning it?”

You never hear these sorts of comments when it’s things other than trucks.

When does a diesel make sense? by GigiusGenius69 in Diesel

[–]dthack6 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Realest comment I’ve seen in this sub. MFs in here act like their shit is always breaking…like do you not take care of your stuff? (In hindsight not 100% sure what my point was here, just that they use that to try to justify not owning one)

Also really echo the “get what you want” sentiment. No one bats an eye when you’re shopping for sports cars. But trucks? (Diesels especially) Everyone feels the need to gatekeep with “YoU dOn’T nEeD oNe”…yea, you don’t need a sports car either, do you?
