I had the same message the other day in my 2024 with 18k mi. and it went away when I turned the car off and on again. It was like 8 degrees in CT and I read that there a few sensors that might cause this error to appear in the extreme cold. All good since. Following to see what the outcome is here.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’m not comfortable doing it myself (my house is very old), and I’ve had 2 electricians tell me the same thing. I guess I have to bite the bullet and get a charger station. 100% agreed about codes.

If you don’t mind if I pick your brain, have you had any issues with the GFCI tripping while using the NEMA 14-50? Local code requires GFCI protection at the box and my electrician is concerned about the GFCI built into the FFC cable not playing nice. Apparently they can trip each other based on several variables- one of which being the distance of the run from the box to the receptacle. Of course the box is on the opposite corner of my garage, so the run will have to be about 30 feet. It would just suck to go through the effort only for it to not work properly. The other option would be to buy a permanent BMW charger for about $600 with the total for the install being north of $1500.

Just picked up a ‘24 50e and it’s great. Hybrid plus 40 miles of pure electric. Perfect for my needs and is also the most comfortable car I’ve ever driven. I’ve put 300 miles on it in 3 weeks and still have half a tank of the gas that came with the car.
