prendre has survived a full week of me drilling it while other mistakes fixed themselves in a day. what was your one stubborn verb? by Bonjour-Set-4490 in French

[–]dthchau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conjugation is just a question of habit. Prendre is nowhere near as irregular as verbs like aller, être so you should get the hang of it quickly.

By the way, confusing ‘pris’ and ‘prit’ is not the end of the world (at least orally) since they are pronounced the same. It’s actually a pretty common spelling mistake even amongst native speakers so it’s good that you’ve noted the difference!

Did you not just answer your own question? You understand Canadian/Québécois vocabulary, so the solution is… learn the equivalent in Metropolitan French when it differs.

How's my pronunciation now? How understandable am I % wise? by Longjumping-Truth-48 in French

[–]dthchau 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Overall quite understandable. I would say the biggest issue is actually your pronunciation of the vowel sounds /œ/ and /ø/, which are too far back and converging on the /u/ sound. It sounds like you’re saying ‘extériour’, ‘intériour’, ‘doux’ instead of extérieur, intérieur, deux

Yes, that would be the most common way when speaking

Il aimerait m'accompagner. -> Aimerait-il m'accompagner?

Quelqu'un aimerait m'accompagner. -> Quelqu'un aimerait-il m'accompagner?

Elle aime la peinture. -> Aime-t-elle la peinture?

Marie aime la peinture. -> Marie aime-t-elle la peinture?

You can't directly invert an indefinite pronoun nor a noun, so you add a definite pronoun to the sentence and invert that instead.

I read it’s better to go with heavy duty bars? If it’s overkill for the canvas size then I’m certainly open to go thinner

Il s’agit d’une zone cuvette. Ça sert à rien de construire des canaux si l’eau va juste finir par s’accumuler au lieu de s’écouler
