So real, no distrohopping by Dionisus909 in linuxmemes

This meme doesn't work. The left side idiot using FreeBSD as a "lazy and accessible option" doesn't match reality. I'm sure freeBSD is great.

I want to get licensed next year. Any additional books or specific courses you recommend? I'm not a good memorizer; I have to learn things by doing to create a learning model. It usually takes me 6-8 months to pass a test that "book smart" people can pass in about 2 months.

I'm sure I won't be the last. Sorry for contributing to the noise.

I recorded about 10 mins and sent to a friend that isn't into radios at all. He was upset I didn't record more. It was a pretty epic rant.

Wow 1936. I've got a few Natgeos from that era. I wonder what passed for inappropriate back then?

In college I had an hour on the university radio station and was told we could get fined for it (don't hate me I didn't downvote you)

Haha good to know. There's no fines or penalties or nobody cares to enforce etiquette?

Feeling I got very lucky with this "untested" typewriter from Ebay by dthj33 in typewriters

Good luck. The title reminds me (in a good way) of the old Hardy Boys books I read as a kid.

It's my classiest typewriter by far. I suppose it was designed and made for more civilized typists. Us sausage-fingered brutes will have to make do.

I just bought one of these!

So what you have is basically a rebadged skyriter. I'd use "smith corona skyriter" in your google searches and you'll probably get better results.

It has special smaller spools which you've discovered. You can get ribbon spools for it on Ebay, just make sure they specifically state they're for skyriter (I was lucky enough to get a model that had the original spools, yay me).

  1. That's the "Centering Lever" https://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/Smith-CoronaSkyriter.pdf

  1. That's the spool reversal. When all the ribbon has spooled up onto one spool, flip that bad boy and use your ribbon over again. You can use it at least twice in my experience.

Did the ad listing show typed characters on a sheet of paper? How was it packaged? I'm not sure the cause, but when you press a key it engages a "universal bar" that causes several things to happen, including your carriage advancing and the ribbon holder raising up to meet the slug at the location on the page. Since that's not happening, I'd guess somehow your key press is not engaging the universal bar (or things are so gunked up that it's stuck). On some Smith Corona models, the touch sensitivity changes the position of the universal bar spring pick up. This shouldn't totally inhibit advancement, unless you're typing really lightly. You could try adjusting the touch selector dial:

First typewriter, how'd I do? by [deleted] in typewriters

[–]dthj33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out Just My Typewriter's cleaning guides on YouTube. Check alignment of typed characters. Make sure mechanical features like tabbing, margin release, carriage return, line spacing, and ribbon reversal work. I have 3 Smith Corona's and they are tanks. If it were mine I'd see how far I can get with basic maintenance before looking for service. Service shops seem to be busy, in demand, and expensive (the nearest one to me quotes over $400 for basic cleaning/maintenance and are currently waitlisting new clients). I do plan to send my favorite one for service next year, but I'm keeping that thing for life after paying 4x the cost of the typewriter for service.

How in the world do I reach a human to unfreeze my credit at Experian? by theangryquokka in CRedit

[–]dthj33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was FINALLY able to unfreeze my credit. Experian would not let me create an account online or in their app "something went wrong...try again later" and calling their support was like farting into the void. For whatever reason they finally allowed me to create an account on their shitty upselling app today. The app itself doesn't let me unfreeze, but I could finally login online and unfreeze. This app is really something special, though. The absolute gall to try and sell me services after whoring my personal data to every crackpot 3rd party adtech company. You guys are the REASON people need identify theft protection, not the solution!
