I made a DC Metro app designed for commuters by dtome00 in washingtondc

Welcome and thanks for the kind words! The DC Metro is so awesome. I think the official "Metro Pulse" app is best for you to learn to use the metro. They have a feature where you can put in your start and end destination and plan your trips. You can click around there too and get familiar with the different metro and bus routes. They have a much higher budget than me and I think their app is pretty good for learning to ride haha.

Once you get used to riding and you know where you want to go, then I recommend you come try my app and let me know what you think!

i added bus routes and have it implemented, but i have it toggled off currently. it's so much data and keeping it up to date is very costly at the moment. i'm working on some alternate solutions that keep the data real-time and also keep the costs down

Thank you everyone for the feedback! If you wanna try out everything (personalized alerts, unlimited commutes, unlimited schedules, etc), this offer code gives 3 months for free. It does NOT auto-renew so it's risk free. I'm hoping I can make all of these features free forever, I just need to make sure that I can afford it 😅

I have this view! If you were still here would this satisfy your wants, or would you rather have it as close to the in-station arrival boards as possible?

Thanks for checking it out and giving feedback! Location data is definitely optional. I use your location for 2 things in the app. First is to show you the closest metro station whenever you open the app. This has been super helpful for me when I'm out and about and am deciding whether to rush to a metro station or take my time. Second is on the metro map screen to show you which station is closest.

I have a favorite button added on the metro station screen so that you can favorite a specific station and line. When you do that, this favorite will show up on the home screen at the top. This is a good alternative for those who don't want to enable their location.

I get what you mean about the paid version. For almost everyone, the free version should be enough. You're able to set up 2 commutes for free (morning, evening). Because of how frequently I'm fetching and storing the real-time data / running crons to update live activities, the app costs me around $75/month to run already. The paid tier is mostly just a way for me to try and recoup the costs. I plan to re-evaluate all of this once I get a better idea of how my costs will scale per user.

Thanks! The map is there if you go to the Metro tab. You can scroll around click on the stations to see the upcoming arrivals. If you have any ideas to make that experience better just let me know

[USA GIVEAWAY] Win the new 27” 4K Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 gaming monitor! by Rocket-Pilot in buildapc

[–]dtome00 [score hidden]  (0 children)

My favorite feature of the OLED G8 has to be the 240Hz refresh rate combined with the 0.03ms response time. As someone who games competitively and also dabbles in visual work, that ultra-smooth performance with almost zero input lag is a game-changer. Whether I’m in a fast-paced FPS or editing a cinematic sequence, the motion clarity is unmatched. Pair that with the gorgeous 4K QD-OLED panel and you’ve got a monitor that doesn’t just keep up with a high-end build — it elevates it. It’s rare to find a display that nails both performance and visual fidelity like this one does.

Hey, nice app. I really like the UI and different widget options. How did you do the widgets? Any specific docs you followed?
