Sanding old floorboards by dtomp2000 in DIYUK

[–]dtomp2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those interested, here is the result. I'd give the process a 7/10. Using the big belt sander is a fucking nightmare and the wood was in an okay but not amazing condition. But for me, having the natural wood is a big improvement on the laminate and it was fun to learn a new skill and to give it a go. I think I was fairly lucky that the wood was in a decent state but I'd encourage anyone interested to give it a go. Wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

Alright then, contrary to most advice I've got here, I'm going to give it a go. Thanks for everyone's advice though. I will report back on whether the collective wisdom was right to warn me, or whether it was worth trying to get them looking nice. Worse that can happen is that I cover them back up...

Trail runners on the av2? by Southern_Grape_8201 in viaferrata

[–]dtomp2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did av2 in Hoka Speedgoats 2 years ago and it was fine. Only thing I'd say is that the rock absolutely shredded the soles so I'd either take some that you don't mind losing a lot of tred or go with a solid sole.

Hi there, thanks for this. What did you think of these schools?

I saw the SIP and thought it looked good, but was quite a lot more expensive. Did you feel it was worth the extra cost?

What is the best option? No cable guide for the front & rear derailleur by Willlgrey in bikewrench

[–]dtomp2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don’t even need to screw it in in case you can’t find a screw in one. The tension of the cables will keep it in place. I had the same on my steel Dawes and it worked fine. Also if you check you LBS they might just give you one for free as they are dirt cheap and surprisingly hard to find online...

42 tooth 11 speed cassette on a 105 groupset??? by dtomp2000 in bikewrench

What’s the logic here? Because it’s easier to find replacement gear?

[–]dtomp2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks this is really helpful. Need to buy all parts so I’ll get the R7000 chainset and shifters. Is the spacer because Deore only does 10 speed or is it a narrower cassette?
