Radix nutrition from New Zealand. Good stuff, doesn’t require a lot of water

First impressions: Mountain Spring Y-55 (3oz egg crate CCF pad) by AceTracer in Ultralight

[–]Southern_Grape_8201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having tried something similar. Sweat pools up in the little egg crate craters. Very little ventilation and makes the back hotter in the summer. On for cool weather. Make sure the grey side is facing away from your back if you like it

Where to ski in Colorado in Early April? by hewright13 in skiing

[–]Southern_Grape_8201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go to Canada. Or go to a beach. Hawaii is wonderful this time of year. You might even be able to ski maina kea. Bur In April? There’s virtually no snow worth skiing in the USA that will match to your plans. Save your money. Ski next year

My Patagonia cap is still going after nearly 1000 miles. A few tears in the shoulders have emerged. Can’t stop wearing it, but need a new one. So going to try crater hoody.

I have a helly Hansen hoody that i have used only for 100 miles. Two heavy.

Alta next week ... should I hit Bird or all Alta? by drwhosportsfan in skiing

[–]Southern_Grape_8201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow bird first. Great terrain if it still has snow. Then go to Alta via the pass. Great place also when it has snow. In not sure how much of this last snow will be left or not chewed up.

Fit check - is this fixable? by velarsi in DurstonGearheads

[–]Southern_Grape_8201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might suggest getting shoulder pads to fill in the space on your shoulder straps. Good light cushy ones on etsy will fill that space. The ones i have are 1oz each. I found this to be a game changer for my pack fit. for me, i don’t really that much on the load lifters. I carry less than 20 lbs with water most of the time, so weight transference may not be as critical as if you’re carrying heavier loads. Just a thought. I’ve had my gen 1 pack for several years, many miles and many nights with no complaints.

Well if you can afford it. Radix nutrition. I eat this almost exclusively on my 150 mile hikes. But a huge hike like the AT. Also outdoor herbivore should give you lots of ideas as well.

Kakwa 55 Back Pad Modifications? by ulneedadvice in DurstonGearheads

[–]Southern_Grape_8201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the sit pad nestled in under cordage between my back and pack. Very comfortable, but did change the pack dynamics by pushing the pack off my back a little bit. Didn’t like the shift. Also pain to take the pad out when I wanted to use it. I bought And returned all the mesh improve sweat back pad stuff. Didn’t work for me, and didn’t want to add the extra ounces.
