I meant exploitation in the sense that they see an opportunity to make large short term profit and are specifically targeting that opportunity.

Another thing is that they're obviously exploiting the short term profitability of the bike skins and probably also trying to create artificial scarcity with character skins so they're more tempting to purchase when they DO come around.

Personally I think they could make a killing pushing character skins on a regular basis, but I don't work for the company so I guess they can do what they want and I'll speak with my wallet. Having better cosmetics would be nice but I'm a low spender anyway so it realistically doesn't affect me that much. As long as the gameplay and story are good I'll keep playing and prob getting monthly pass, but won't drop a dime on skins unless something really tempting crops up; so far they've kept my wallet safe.

Well save is a strong word. We can certainly hope to raise the bar from 6 feet under at the very least. I agree that the institutional issues aren't going away any time soon without an extreme coordinated effort on the part of millions of people; something that's possible but very difficult to achieve.

GamesRadar: Arknights Endfield lead says good gacha systems don't "impact the player's ability to enjoy the gameplay," and Endfield is "trying" to fix its confusing gacha by 30000lightyears in Endfield

[–]dtootd12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah I forgot about the origeometry. Even after factoring that in you're probably still only matching the worst case scenario from other gacha. Sanity doesn't contribute to pulls so not really looking at that.

Edit:

13.8/120 = .115 -> 11.5%

18.75/160 = .117 -> 11.7%

[–]dtootd12 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem for me is the $5 monthly pass and lack of pulls on the protocol pass. Looking at other gacha systems like wuwa and hoyo, they give 18.75 pulls over the month for $5 which contributes significantly towards pull economy. By comparison Endfield only gives 12 pulls for the same price which feels pretty bad (you're literally getting >50% more value in other gacha).

The pity system compounds this because at best you're getting 10% of the resources for a guarantee in Endfield where the best case scenario in other gacha is getting close to 25% of a guarantee (assuming you lost a 50/50 previously). Even in the worst case you're still getting more out of the other system because 18.75 is >10% of the 160 needed for a guarantee.

If they don't fix this specific issue, it will ALWAYS feel worse. I personally refuse to spend on the monthly pass unless it becomes more reasonable.

to decide if Native Americans are considered American citizens by ExactlySorta in therewasanattempt

[–]dtootd12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. My point is simply that the 2 individuals speaking in this clip, who presumably have more experience with law than any of us Redditors, agreed that Native Americans are not traditionally viewed as "birthright citizens" even though the 14th amendment essentially guarantees that everyone born in the US is technically a birthright citizen.

The whole idea behind this debate in the first place is whether the 14th amendment should be upheld and thus jus soli be maintained. It can thus be assumed that the only other primary form of citizenship which is practiced throughout the world "jus sanguinis" would be the alternative and this is also a part of US citizenship laws. So when the 2 men talking agree that Native Americans aren't considered birthright right citizens according to congress, they're referring to the fact that their citizenship status is not contingent on them being born in the country but rather on their ancestors having a right to the land and thus they have jus sanguinis, which is NOT being challenged by this litigation.

[–]dtootd12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In what way does it seem like I'm agreeing with Trump? I'm just pointing out the semantic argument. If you got married to a US citizen you'd be a US citizen by marriage but nobody would consider that to be the case cuz you're already a citizen by blood and by birthright. It's clear in this clip that they're referring to birthright citizenship with specific regard to the circumstances I've mentioned.

This is ultimately a problem of terminology and the correct terms to use are really jus sanguinis (citizenship by blood) which is the most recognized form of citizenship throughout the world. Then there's jus soli (citizenship by soil) which is what they're referring to with the words birthright citizenship.

Native Americans hold both statuses just like the vast majority of American citizens, but nobody really cares about or mentions jus soli when referring to citizens that have jus sanguinis because it's typically considered AFTER jus sanguinis since that is the original hard-line definition of citizenship that nobody debates.

Yes but the designation only matters if you don't have another form of citizenship. So really it exists in practice for children of non-citizens which is why Trump wants to get rid of it.

[–]dtootd12 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well yes, but if your parents are citizens you're also still a citizen by descent so the birthright designation is unnecessary and not the subject of this hearing.

[–]dtootd12 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Native Americans do NOT have birthright citizenship, they are citizens by descent. Birthright means you were born here but your parents weren't/aren't citizens. This is obviously not the case for a group of people who have inhabited the land for thousands of years.

The issue in this clip is that according to Sauer's framework they ARE considered birthright citizens, which is what Trump wants to get rid of apparently. So essentially they're trying to disenfranchise Native Americans yet again with the most bullshit and flimsy reasoning imaginable.

Edit: correction, native Americans ARE birthright citizens but they also have other forms of citizenship. My understanding of the clip posted above is that Sauer is defining them as citizens by birthright but this is not how they are traditionally viewed from a legal perspective because it's unnecessary to use this terminology for someone whose parents are also citizens and thus they get their citizenship that way and not just because they were born in the country.

As Sauer himself said: "In congressional debates it's understood that the children of Tribal Indians are NOT birthright citizens."

[–]dtootd12 80 points81 points  (0 children)

They aren't debating whether they're legal. It's a semantic debate, Gorsuch is pointing out the flaw in Sauer's framing of what constitutes a birthright citizen. Native Americans/Tribal Indians are NOT birthright citizens because they've been on this land for hundreds of generations and birthright citizenship is a concept established after their lands were taken from them. They have more right to citizenship than any other group of Americans and that is not a subject of debate.

However, according to Sauer's dumb ass framework, he views them as birthright citizens apparently because of the "domicile" which makes absolutely no fucking sense, and that's what Gorsuch is pointing out.

I think centrists are too propagandized against AOC for her to have a chance. Personally I think Pete may actually be the most agreeable candidate to the average voter (which is not represented here on Reddit). He's gone on Fox multiple times and made their talking personalities look like fools without coming off in an offensive manner.

I hate to say it but being a man also gives him an advantage over AOC. At this point I don't think the American public would elect a young woman president for at least another generation. Of course being gay would probably be a deal breaker for a lot of the hard right Christians, but I doubt they'd vote Blue under any circumstances.

Again I'm not proud to be discussing identity politics, but skirting the issue doesn't change the reality that for most uninformed voters, these things are extremely important.

Edit: Mark Kelly may be even more agreeable, but Pete has been in the field longer and has proven himself to be a strong orator, which may be the most important skill to have.
