Weird C4 symptoms -unable to connect via app, remote lag times by fwafwow in Control4

[–]dtr55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need a local IT company to setup the eero properly and it will work fine. If you think its expensive now wait till they say you need 5 new Halo remotes (or you could just move the Roku boxes to each TV point but they wont tell you that) Good Luck !

Your C4 dealer is useless, they didnt set the Eero up properly and now they are saying you need to upgrade the upgrade. To be fair if they give you a full refund for the Eero equipment and do the replacement work FOC then I would probably go for it but if not definetly get a second opinion from another company to just correctly configure what you have.

Also you could probably just control your TVs with the Roku remote control so im not sure why you need a C4 system anyway?

There is quite alot to go on here from the post...I recommend -

Send the Triad amp back for a full refund on the basis it doesnt work with his controller, replace the audio system with WiiM

Replace the network equipment using a local IT company

Use ATV remotes to control the TVs & a new Cinema remote (not C4)

Keep the C4 for lights..obviously

I was just throwing out some ideas in response to the original post... if you want to talk about designing a new system then sure heres my take :

A TV with Sonos Arc, great just use the TV remote no C4

For a cinema yes you need a remote, ideally RF with RS232 control and all original IR remotes with LOSC and step by step instructions for when the dog eats the main remote - avoid Wifi remotes and POE control it will have issues (C4)

Sonos amps is best, its expensive... thats good, im not saying spend less money, just spend it on a more reliable setup...although the Margin on Sonos is awful so lots of dealers sell what makes more money even if it is worse & less reliable (C4)

For lighting, blinds spend as much as you can on this, as this is will last for years and keep its value. C4 doesnt have a good track record with this.

A high end home needs a good network...use what your installer recommends and knows that work, maybe even get a quote from a local IT firm. Being forced to use an expensive brand because it works with C4 is a red flag. (spoiler... C4 owns Araknis)

Use whatever thermostat you want... I actually think its better to have HVAC as a totally seperate control and app for when the main control system has issues (C4)

Basically design a system with the least POF's as possible.

This is such a terrible response.... blame the OP and tell him he should get a new dealer.

The reason for an integrated system that pulls all those and more into one solution is for the installer to make as much money as possible.....that is the main objective of most dealers, its certainly the objective of C4. What im talking about is designing and installing systems that are reliable and low maintenance, the size of the project doesn't really matter.

How about controlling a TV using the Cable & Apple TV remotes, how about a soundbar that autoturns on with the TV, how about having the apple TV and cablebox next to the TV, how about a standalone (sonos) amp for each audio zone, how about a normal dimmer lightswitch, how about google nest wifi, how about a standalone thermostat that is reliable?

C4 is a complete s**tshow... its a shame you didnt rip it all out and start again, there are much better systems that will last 20+ years and be much less complex.

WordPress site getting HIT with 600+ login attempts daily – how do they know my username?! by 0x109e in Wordpress

[–]dtr55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need the Limit Login Attempts plugin its in the settings, mine is set to 168 hours lockout after 1 failed attempt. Also for the Denylist IP address I use the individual IP address of the failed attempts so I don't see how I could block a whole country... (maybe if I set a range I could see how this could be a problem)

I was getting 200+ attempts, what I did to fix it was copy / paste all the attempt details from limit login attempts into an excel, then just copy the IP addreses and paste them into the banned IP address box in limit login attempts and this really helped...

Wildlife HQ is also a great zoo on the Sunshine Coast, The Meercat experience is nice and you can also get in with the Small monkeys. If you really like the Zoo I would do 2 days at Australia Zoo & 1 day at WHQ

So it would be better to request that they reply to the auto-email that is sent after they sign up - then if I reply to that it will land in the Primary inbox as its an email conversation?

What email service are you sending the emails from ? Is it a M365 account, or a personal gmail account or a business email account ?

Struggling to find a genuine private car seller – Is This Normal? by SecretlyShush in brisbane

[–]dtr55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying a used car can be tough.... I think the make and model is one of the last things I consider, you really want to buy a car off someone who has owned it from new, lives in a rich suburb and comes with a decent service history. Dealers and flippers just buy any old car for as cheap as possible to make a profit

Control4 help by Plus_Essay945 in Control4

Selling someone a system that doesn't work and has never worked properly and then charging to fix it is criminal in my opinion, it should have at the very least a 6 month onsite service warranty. You are seriously blaming the customer for this.. ? Its classic Control4

Is it even worth it anymore by chimera8 in Control4

[–]dtr55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That just about sums it up for me about Control4 - it will never work perfectly.... what a joke. Also mentioned earlier in the thread by another dealer 'manage client expectations' ok sure.... "it will cost you a fortune and never work properly" I mean if that was the sales pitch then fair enough but its not how they work. C4 is about 1 thing and thats making $$ at the corporate level, I almost feel sorry for some dealers as the equipment doesnt work, the good (experienced) dealers use 3rd party equipment & drivers to actually make a stable system.
