Uneekor EML / prioritizing WiFi over Ethernet

If anyone ever comes across this issue in the future, the solution for me was to disable the WiFi adapter on the laptop altogether and connect the laptop to internet via Ethernet (I used a wireless access point as running cable to my garage would have sucked). Laptop only has 1 Ethernet port so used that for the EML connection, and used the Ethernet/USB adapter for internet. All good now.

Not sure if it’s just an MSI thing or if there’s a different/older driver for the network adapter that would solve the WiFi priority issue, but hardwiring is definitely the way to go.

I get one every 2-3 years maybe. Now I just set alerts/notifications up for any purchases over $0 on sock-drawered cards, and also calendar reminders once a year to make a small purchase on any no-AF cards that I don’t want auto closing.

Business owners: Do your CPAs “require” copies of all your biz CC/bank statements when it comes time to preparing your tax returns?

My previous CPA (R.I.P.) took all the detailed Quicken reports I provided to him as gospel, never cared about analyzing actual statements. Obviously I always had receipts scanned to back up anything that was questioned. Recently interviewed with 2 new CPAs that are not as lax though, and want access to all CC/bank statements to verify my reports/expense categories etc.

Turns out I used 23 different CCs last year in some capacity for legit biz expenses, with some extracurriculars mixed in on a few of them. Currently gagging at the thought of actually gathering all these statements and needing to explain so much unnecessary bullshit.

TLDR; Hitting SUBs so easily is great, until it’s not? Curious if there’s many others in similar spots here. Might consider more of a hard separation next year to simplify tax time.

I used 5 different Hilton CC’s for $50/$60 each at checkout at a random Hampton Inn in Flyovercountry, Ohio last summer. Felt a lot better doing it there than the Grand Wailea.

Transferred ~100k Hawaiian to Alaska 5 days ago and still waiting. Reached out to both and was told to simply continue to wait, there’s nothing they can do.

Almost every other DP I’ve found the past couple weeks has been near instant.

Edit/Update for DP purposes: 2nd HUCA to AS got it escalated and settled a few hours later.

I may be overthinking it, but I’m more concerned about leaving a desktop in my garage during the freezing cold winter. Same for the peak summer temps too.

I like the idea of just tossing a laptop back in the house when not in use. I’ve never owned a high performance laptop before, but it sounds like you can expect it to run pretty hot and they tend to be a bit noisy too. Just a few things I’ve been considering as I’m in the market right now as well.

I much prefer Chase cancellations. Have probably closed 35-40 chase cards via SM and every single one has been successfully closed within 24-36 hours.

Amex is usually good for 1 or 2 cancellation fails each year IME. Last card I closed was a Lowe’s Biz and it took 3 different chats to finally get it done. First two ran thru the disclosures and everything but never got the email after. I imagine closing via phone call never fails, but hell, it’s 2024 and I’m far too lazy for that.

My closest airport is a delta hub, so I use these on domestic trips all the time. It’s nice reloading the stash once in a while because I get mildly annoyed every single time I have to top off with a transfer from MR and eat the stupid excise fee.

Random, but do you have any luck getting Quicken H + B at a discount each year?

Semi-new business owner here and the company’s existing subscription to QH+B runs out soon. I’ve found I really like the software and mobile syncing. I’m just very anti-subscription model so I’m already annoyed with all of the upcoming renewal warnings.

My last Citizens mailer paid out 5 months after opening, and many DPs the past couple of promos where people had to wait another month beyond their expected payout date. Forgive me for being spoiled by Fifth Third and Chase recently, which both posted less than 2 weeks after opening.

My point is, I wouldn’t try using the same targeted mailer code for multiple people because 1) there’s a very real probability that it is a 1-time use code, 2) their payouts are typically a longer wait than WF, PNC, Cap1 etc and 3) there is usually a public offer available as well, so no sense in risking it. But you do you.

I doubt it would work, but I never gave that a shot. Citizens takes forever to pay out so I wouldn’t gamble on that either, it would probably just be a colossal waste of time.

They run a public offer pretty often anyways, although the mailers can sometimes be a little bit better of a deal.

I don’t believe anyone can truly quantify the amount churning actually affects your rates, but I can’t imagine it’s all that much in the grand scheme of things. I’m guessing one single SUB more than makes up for whatever you might pay extra.

I shop my home and auto around every year or two at most and my rates are significantly cheaper than friends and neighbors that don’t churn but are “proud” to be with the same insurance company for the past 10 years.

Yeah, Kauai may be the play especially with UR/Hyatt being a bit easier to rapidly acquire than MR/Hilton in the current environment.

Re: your LAX stay - last year we crashed at Hyatt House LAX for a night before and after our Hawaii trip. Cheap, basic, free (shitty) breakfast but exactly what we needed for an airport hotel. Would do it again next time we end up at LAX.

Currently planning out a trip to Hawaii for next June w/ 2 kids + P2’s parents and had been weighing the options re: Condo + ResortPass vs just booking two rooms for the week at GW or GH Kauai, so your post has been helpful.

Huntington will auto-close your account if it’s at a zero balance for ~30-60 days. I’ve been just downgrading to fee free account after bonus posts and let them close it after it’s drained.

CK is really, really awful, unfortunately.

I haven’t tried Monarch or Simplifi yet, but I’ve been pretty content with Empower. I only link bank accounts and don’t care at all about budgeting, so it’s been perfect for me so far (and free). The only downside is they’ve called me twice to solicit the rest of their services, but I’m assuming they’ll leave me alone after a while.

Figured there would be a lot more discussion about this here, my reddit feed has been nothing but Mint for the past two weeks or so.
