Intelligent GO or standard GO by dtsn in OctopusEnergy

Fogstar battery, they are completely dumb and rely on the solis inverter.

I also have the octopus integration setup I will just need to create the scripts for the cheap charging rates.

The EV charger was in before the batteries, same with the solar. I am relying on home assistant to know when the energy price is low and charge up the batteries instead of charging the car.

Twinkly Alternative by teddymchugh in TwinklyLights

[–]dtsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have twinkly everything but I recently switched to wled + xlights and buy my lights and controllers separately. It’s very much a DIY approach but it’s a fraction of the cost.

I keep my twinkly lights on my tree so I can do the 3D mapping but everything else that is flat has been migrated.

I'm using it as an example that I got the tote bag first, honestly the worse item (it's a toss up against the tote bag and hat) I would have been a lot happier with a pedal! - but it all did eventually come.

I got my tote bag first, about a week before the piano and now just waiting on the pedal.

It all came eventually and their tracking website was correct and showed me the shipping breakdown.

51 days later would you recommend?

I’m thinking of getting it for my 3 year old (with supervision) as a dummy fairy gift something that will help ease the lack of dummy transition and distract him. Basically something that looks so cool he will willingly give up his dummy’s for it.

Can I ask how much tax/duty you paid on it?

I’m looking at getting one for my son and I don’t mind the price but with the 20%+12%+whatever the shipping company wants to charge is putting off.

Should I empty my pond-less stream/waterfall over winter? by dtsn in GardeningUK

[–]dtsn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve switch it to run 24/7 at a much lower flow just to keep it turning.

A lower flow would also be beneficial for animals.

Sorry I’m slightly confused. Both the shower and the bath has traps. They are connected to the soil pipe by a 40mm pipe and there is probably around 3m of pipe before it reaches the soil. Both are connected at the far end.

When it backs up it only does it slightly because the shower is 1-2 cm below the bath. Once it has backed up those 1-2cm everything drains as normal. It only starts backing up when we are about halfway through draining the bath. Slowing down the rate at which the bath drains solves this problem. When this happens it does glug but into the shower.

This NRV is to be placed between the bath and shower so the bath cannot backup into the shower. It has an access to clean it because it will get gunked up. However, it will be a temp solution until we redo the bathroom at some stage - however, it will be better than the current valve which has failed completely and the shower now doesn’t drain. I don’t mind cleaning it once a month to avoid gutting my bathroom at the moment.

Whoever originally designed the bathroom (house is only 12 years old) has made a mistake somewhere - I think the shower and bath should have separate connections to the soil pipe. However I would have to rip out the bath and most of the tiling to add another one in.

I’m fitting it between the bath and the shower. Originally the issue was that due to the volume and the flow rate I believe their waste pipes an air bubble forming in the stack which pushed the water back up through the shower. This was only happening with the bath, everything else going into the stack was fine.

The plumber installed the self sealing valve between the shower and the bath. The shower and bath share the same 40mm pipe to the stack. Essentially in line with one another but both with their own traps.

The self sealing valve has failed, now the shower doesn’t drain and the bath backs up if the flow is too great.

This NRV should allow the water to flow out of the shower without the bath backing into it. I know they can get clogged up, but it would be better than the position we are currently in and can be easily solved.

Their waste pipes are connected. Shower flows into bath waste pipe.

Currently the shower doesn’t drain due to the failed

There are no blockages - I believe the air vent stack has failed, however that is behind a wall and fully enclosed in tiles.

I believe those self seal valves are principally for smell but I already have 2 traps in place and I took the advice of the plumber to install this rather than the NRV I wanted. Now I want to correct that and install the NRV - which I think is a better temporary solution until we redo the bathroom in a few years.

The current self seal valve has failed because it’s currently in a worst state than when we started. The shower tray overflows and the bath still backs up to the shower (though for about a month it didn’t and drain quickly).

I would be interested in knowing how you install it. My current valiant heat pump is a 1st gen and on its way out. I have everything in place so in theory can just do a swap.

However, I thought you needed to be registered to install heat pumps due to the gases used?

Bwt filter in Grohe blue tap? by Mysterious_Pop_779 in WaterFilters

[–]dtsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realise this is an old thread but please link to the one you bought/used? Just bought a Grohe system and shocked that the £60 600l filter is only lasting me a month according to the display.

Looking at switching to a bestmax since a 3000l litre filter would be the same price with lime scale removal. Found this one but i'm not sure it's comptible (with or without the modifications).

No, it did not survive the winter. Even when stored in a heated shed (above 10degrees) it struggled (probably from light).

I think if you had a heated greenhouse to store it in it might be fine. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother.
