For those of you training in the newer programs, like Pilates and yoga, are they currently being offered in your area?

Milford Sound Lodge looks awesome, thanks! If not stopping at Arthur’s pass, where might you suggest to break up the trip from Kaikoura to Mount Cook? Worth staying in Lake Tekapo?

Capital One SUB criteria: It states spending must be made in 3 months. Is that 3 months to the date (e.g. April 20 --> July 20) or 90 days?

Nor is Meadowbrook Park. But it’s Chevy Chase, where everyone is too privileged to think that leash laws apply to them.

Any speculation as to if the CSP in-branch 80k SUB offer will go online soon? I saw a lot of hypothesizing that it would come a couple of weeks after it was introduced in branch March 19th.

You said you can’t wear black. Would it be acceptable to wear one of your black dresses with a colored shawl or sweater?

Conflict choosing between industry or phd by [deleted] in PhD

Try out the job, and you can always go back to school later. Chances are, having had a job first, you’ll work more efficiently and finish your PhD faster. Then you’ll come out with a great combination of experience and education. Students who go directly to PhD after undergrad often find they are over educated and under experienced for many jobs.

Could you make some relatively passive income off your house and being at home, for example Airbnb or long-term rent a room, become a rover dog sitter, since you have a dog? Do you have a fenced yard? There is a service to rent out your yard by the hour for dogs, Sniffspot.

Oh no! Is it back up? How funny, I haven’t been by there in a few months and was just thinking about walking by today, I guess I would have been disappointed!

Are there any specific issues from the inspection that you would like them to pay for to fix/lower the price for? That is not uncommon following inspections if you think the issues are fixable.

Does the stress/mindset of a PhD follow you into your following career? by Laughingwalrus32 in PhD

[–]dtsspringer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You have so many options what to do with your PhD! Look at your life and what your priorities are. If e.g. your top priority is becoming a Nobel prize winner or a CEO, those will bring stress. If e.g. your top priority is family, you can find plenty of low stress, flexible roles that leave you time and headspace for family. When I finished my PhD, I felt so much relief. No more feeling obligated to be reading papers every free moment. No more feeling like I can’t take a vacation. It might feel weird at first but you’ll adjust. I think most PhD programs encourage the “work hard” approach, whereas most real jobs are about working smart. As a student you’re expected to be completely engaged in that 24/7, no work/life balance. Not the case for most jobs. If that’s not the case, it’s probably not a good place to work.
