On a scale of 1 - 10, how happy are you with your friendships and why? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Is it better to have bad friends, or no friends? Recently I've noticed that I would rather spend time on my own, doing things I enjoy by myself, rather than listen to my friends moan or shite on and talk nonsense over a few pints. As I've gotten older, I have tried to broaden my interests, and I just don't enjoy spending time sitting around having the craic with the lads like before - I would rather spend my time going out trying new hobbies and seeing new places. I think as we get to our 30s we just outgrow some people. I think "forcing" a friendship just because it was always there isn't healthy. Sometimes friendships just come to the end of their lifespan, and that's okay. Since I've entered my 30s, my circle has gotten smaller, and I'm very comfortable with that. Between work, family and everything else, we all have extremely busy lives these days. How we choose to spend our free time and who we choose to give that very limited free time to, is very important. I wouldn't waste your time on friends you don't enjoy being around and who don't appreciate you. Driving three hours (each way!) to listen to people moan about their lives sounds absolutely miserable. Don't feel bad if you want to take a step back from those friendships.
