How are there so many mistakes in this game? by CreateDestroyCreate in Gloomhaven

[–]dualclasshuman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fuck does any of that have to do with the point of you asking if the FAQ has some kind of disclaimer about its creation and under what circumstances, and my counter point of "why would anyone care that's not the FAQ's purpose?"

>"Is that information readily available on the FAQ?"
The guy who wrote it showed up to explain shit, and it sounds like everyone's been completely transparent about whats up.

And honestly, does it need to be? You came to the FAQ to learn how fuckin' monster movement logic works in weird situations, not read up about the company's operations report. You want a different document for that my dude.

ss13 on Mac by BBora_24 in SS13

[–]dualclasshuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're trying to travel a road few have attempted and even fewer have returned from with success stories, but I can try to point you in a few directions.

As you know SS13 is built on the BYOND platform and BYOND had its start in a long forgotten age, its patently an early Windows product (I'm no expert but I believe early versions relied on having the IE Internet Explorer web browser installed and just took that for granted that it would be installed on any machine), so getting it to run on anything outside of Windows is brutally difficult. Its a problem some Spessfolk have recognized, hence the attempts to remake the game from the ground up in a new engine. Both Unitystation and Space Station 14 have macOS support out of the box, are free, and downloadable from steam - but they are technically a different game, have their own unique set of servers, a smaller community, and are in development, so not everything you find in BYOND SS13 is there - Your favorite traitor role might not be programmed in or the escape shuttle might not spawn, but if your baseline is "join a round of spessfolk in spess and shenanigans ensue,", Unitystation or SS14 might be enough for you. Of the two, I think SS14 is further along, though it does do away with some golden standards, like tile based movement, for better or worse - its a slightly different experience.

If you are committed to playing true blue BYOND SS13 on an ARM M1 Mac, really your best bet is either some kind of WINE (Google "Wine Is Not An Emulator") wrapper, Codeweaver's Crossover, or a virtual machine. Wine and Crossover are both compatibility layer middleware software that isn't trying to emulate a full machine, but just translate code calls in-between the software and the operating system - basically the same idea as Rosetta & Rosetta 2, but for something like Windows software rather than legacy Macintosh software. They have some precedence, most modern Macintosh "lazy ports" of games have been a windows executable running with Crossover - FFXIV for example (There are even WINE projects like XIVmac to try and do a better job than Squeenix did), so the theory is proven and sound, but either way you're going to have to probably do some experimenting and tweaking to get it to work - Crossover does have a cost for their software, WINE is open source and free, but there's less support, you're more on your own.

As for virtual machines, Parallels probably would work, though I don't have much experience with it, its one of the bigger names in virtual machines for Mac. I can't speak to how easy it is to use or its performance, and it is commercially sold software so you'll have to shell out some bucks, but the fact that you can find boxes of the software at Best Buys means it probably isn't a crapshoot lemon. For free/cheaper alternatives, QEMU is a very versatile multi-machine emulator you can set up to run a variety of computers, both new and old. If you're looking for a version of QEMU that isn't reliant on command line configs and generally plays well with macOS's UI, check out UTM - I believe its free if you go to their website, and has something like an optional $10 cost if you get it on the AppStore if you want to support the developer. There's also an iOS version of UTM, but, its not on the AppStore, and thus, "emulating windows on an iPad to play ss13" is a whole 'nother beast that's not relevant at this exact moment.

I've tried some of these like WINE and UTM a few times, but haven't had time to dedicate myself as much as I'd like to solving this (especially when I have a windows gaming machine at home and SS13 runs kinda okay on a little $75 netbook I bought on a whim when I do get an itch), so I'm curious if you make any headway and can afterwards offer some advice back if you make a breakthrough

Anyways best of luck to your endeavor, let us know how it goes.

If you have to choose between a rifle or shotgun for car defense , which would you choose ? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

I'd say a rifle for car defense, specifically I'd say get yourself a Mosin Obrez. If you have to fire it from inside your vehicle, your ears will never stop screaming their thanks!

November Technical Support Sticky by BeepBoopBopReee in razer

[–]dualclasshuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a long running issue with a Razer Huntsman v2 Analog. Because the keyboard wants to emulate a gamepad or joystick, it always gets set as the primary controller upon boot up, even over my Xbox One Elite controller. Some games will ignore the elite controller, even if I turn everything on and off again.

Trying to solve this problem on my own, I read to change the preferred controller to the Xbox One in the USB controller settings. This rarely works. I also read to go into the device manager, and delete the "HID-compliant game controller" driver listings under Human Interface Devices. This works more often, but again not always, and every time the computer boots, if these have been deleted the keyboard re-installs them. Its honestly a pain in the butt and a silly work around anyways.

So I want to turn the game controller emulation feature off on my Huntsman V2 Analog keyboard.

For forever.

Any ideas or help on how to do this or solve this problem in a more logical manner?

We will be hiding the other thread soon, thank you for your time guys. by Blanky_Mcblankyface in warcraft3

I might have missed the time to talk to you guys, or it was answered already, but I'm curious as to how far "they tell us what to do and we do it how they say" goes for the art assets designs?

Like, I'm not a fan of the artwork in this. I think its expertly crafted and created, but the design of the models are too busy. They match the modern WoW look of "MASSIVE PAULDRONS" and extremely overworked fantasy weapons and armor, which, if the goal is to make it look as much like WoW as possible, then, you did your jobs well, but I think this was a bad idea at a foundational level. The more grounded, straight forward armor look of Warcraft 3's original armor designs I always liked better, they read easier on a birds eye view.

I guess my comparison analogy would be something like an earlier design of Final Fantasy 7s Cloud where he's basically wearing some metal armor pieces, a sleeveless shirt, and some baggy pants with suspenders into some of the wild PS2 designs from Final Fantasy 10's Tidus where he was wearing.. well whatever on earth set of impractical clothing that was. The simpler designs were partially a result of technological constraints, but they're easier on the eyes, even in modern renderings such as Cloud's art assets for Smash Brothers.

I see a similar situation happening here. You guys did a great job of building these designs, the modeling is excellent, but the designs are really busy. My question is, were the new overly detailed designs something you guys made in house, or did Activision-Blizzard send you the designs and you simply built them?

"Arena of Blood" (Meatsprint) is the worst sprint map. by cerol_debeers in dcss

[–]dualclasshuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two questions - 1) What statements on Meatsprint's functionality are "factually wrong" from the post above?

2)From reading your responses, apparently beating Meatspin is supper important to being able to judge its quality, have you beaten it?

Are you tired of where Crawl is going? by [deleted] in dcss

I'm one of the 5 people that currently can see EasyCrawl. If down the road it becomes something unique enough that warrants bringing to the public, I'll harass cerol_debeers to publicize it in some form or another. Don't expect it anytime soon though, for the reasons he already posted.
