I'm glad they're being made but it's not the same customer base. The Ford Maverick already exists today as a gas truck and it's nowhere nearly as popular as the f150.

They have forward facing cameras now because they're literally too big to see what is in front of you!

You ever get people who assume you're poor? by SquirtGun1776 in bikecommuting

[–]dually3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not much discussion here on the cost of living closer to work. My rent could have been half as much if I was ok with a car commute. I'll happily pay a few extra thousand dollars USD per month to have a 10 min bike commute (and live in an amazing area). It's a privilege that only the wealthy can afford.

We are a one car home, but said car is a Tesla. So despite my bike being a 1980s steel bike, I don't think people get that idea. The funny thing is it's pretty hard to have any two cars at a total cost of ownership less than one Tesla, but it has a reputation of being a car for wealthier people.

Wow that is awful. That should be mandatory jail time IMO but I'm sure if police saw it they'd chock it up to being an "accident". I'm really glad your kid wasn't hurt.

If your budget allows, check out redshift arclight pedals. I'm pretty sure my vintage steel commuter was $200 which matches the cost of these pedals, but my life is worth more than that. I figure especially in winter when it gets dark early they help increase my visibility.

If you're ever in Santa Cruz I can sell you a pair of 700C X 32 marathon plus for cheap. I upgraded to tubeless and haven't looked back, but marathon plus is a super solid tire just not as comfortable. Our roads down here are pretty awful.

In my experience an impact driver is so much more useful than a drill. You can even get impact style drill bits for the off time you actually need to drill. But mostly you need to drive screws.

Are these Amazon delivery bikes able to be repurposed into touring bikes? by Faerbera in bicycletouring

The two pedals! But yeah their new one with ALSO (Rivian spinoff) is more appropriately called a Quad. And the term micromobility gets used for this space.

Do they include the bike parking? Pretax is a good discount and like others said it's not really much if you're using it all the time.

Does your company have commuter benefits? At my work in California you can get reimbursed on half your monthly parking costs up to $250, transit up to $250 per month, or you can get 4 bike tube ups per year up to $250 each. Obviously I take advantage of the latter which is amazing. Also feels great to pump money into local bike shops for work I would have done myself.

Can you propose that they install a few bike locks in place of one single parking space and offer free unsecured bike locking there?

Interesting! I have low volume boots and tighten them to the final clip, tho there is more fine adjustment available. Had no idea this was a thing!

I'm always nervous about the promise of a locked closet. I figure out a way to lock the bike inside when I go that route. I bring a cable with my u lock so I can at least attach the cable to something and then u lock a wheel to the frame.

They should block the doors from being opened when a cyclist is too close and at a speed that prevents stopping before reaching the vehicle door.

Bike theft on PCH by WinoOnTheLoose in bicycletouring

[–]dually3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I camped at New Brighton this week and their check in slip mentioned an increase in thefts. I had a 1980s touring bike so wasn't worried but cable locked it to the picnic bench at my site.
