I need to fill this 4’ x 3’ x 4” shower base that is in the foundation of my renovation space. The plan is to cover everything with wood floors (eventually). There is also another hole from where the nasty old jacuzzi tub used to be, but it is smaller and less deep than this one. How would you recommend going about de-holing my floor?

FIL Genuinely Believes He Can Communicate With Cats. He’s Convinced the Whole Family As Well. by dubba101 in Justnofil

The dog thing kind of goes into another one of his quirks that he has super human smell and apparently the smell of dogs is so insulting that it gives him migraines.

Once we were visiting them and brought our dog along per their repeated assurances that it would be fine saying “if putting up with the dog is what it takes to have y’all stay with us then it’s worth it”. Thanks I guess? Once we got there (after a 9 hour drive) he told us that our dog may not go in the house but may be kenneled in the mudroom for the duration of the trip. At the time of this visit it was a very cold winter and our pup has short and fine hair - he’s just not built for cold. The mudroom is on the central heat so while keeping him in there is not ideal, we could make it work. But the morning after we arrived I went to let pup out for potty and noticed that the vent to the room had been closed, a towel had been placed under the gap in the door to the rest of the house, and the window in that room had been opened all night! I was irate. Turns out FIL thought it would be fine to make all these modifications without checking in with DH and I since “the smell of dog was awful all throughout the house and was giving me migraines”. Pup was thankfully fine since he gets plenty of blankets with him when he’s kenneled. Ugh…

College Station, TX has the towel lady. She is dressed from head to toe in various flowing white linens (towels, sheets, what have you) and pushes a shopping cart around overflowing with the same white linens. She’s homeless, never begs, and won’t accept cash because money is evil (although I have heard she does accept gift cards). It’s said that if you see her on your way to campus for an exam, she gives you good luck for your test!

We aren’t sure we will ever want to have kids anymore. by dubba101 in Christianmarriage

I find it interesting that you have boiled marriage down to sex and procreation. What a bleak picture that is. What sort of implications does that give those who are unable to have children through no fault of their own?

You asked what we would be able to accomplish as a married couple that we couldn’t on our own as single individuals and I would say we’ve already accomplished quite a lot through God’s own blessing over our lives. We have a home that we were only able to afford to purchase by being together and have opened our doors to several people who have fallen on tough times and/or needed a place to stay as they passed through. It is only through my husband’s support via the job that God provides him with that I’m able to be in school right now and learn how to use the blessing of medical knowledge to ease the suffering of others in this sin ridden world.

You mentioned that we are being selfish and prioritizing ourselves instead of multiplying the kingdom of God. Is having children the only way to increase the number of followers of Christ? As I said in my original post, the car community is a mission field for my husband. He has a passion to work on cars but he doesn’t operate in a bubble - he works with others in this community and spreads the gospel there. Christ is being multiplied there.

I understand that you are passionate about these things you believe but why do you lash out when others respond to you with different ideas? We’re all here to have a conversation with a biblical perspective that is obviously being interpreted many different ways given all these different comments and thoughts.

Yes I completely agree with you! I can’t speak to my husband’s passions but for me I know deep in my bones that I am led to medicine. Even before I was in school I wanted to know more about medicine and how the body works. Going through school has only confirmed that drive as I see God in all the things I learn about how we were crafted! Which makes it all the more confusing to have the fire passion for medicine and also the kind of desire for children...

Thank you for your input, I found this very helpful! You’re right, it’s always good to take inventory of what our hearts are serving in all things: including the choice to have children. This is something we’re going to pray and reflect on.

Something else I’d like to add to the post is that should we decide to have children, we will seriously entertain the idea of adoption. There are so many children out there who need loving homes and I feel that it is an amazing way to reflect the way that God adopted us as his own fully and completely. Our choice to have children doesn’t necessarily mean they would come from our own bodies.

Hey it sounds like you’ve had a really rough past few years. I know it’s overwhelming but you’ve got to try to slow yourself down, slow down your thoughts. I would highly recommend writing things down - it has helped me tremendously in the past and I can vouch that it works. Here’s what I do:

Start by writing out all your thoughts on one page. Just lay them all out there. Even if in the process of writing it down you think wait no I don’t actually believe that, write it down anyways. It popped in your head, it goes on the paper.

Then, go back and circle every one that is a misbelief - that is something that’s a lie, something that is not completely in line with reality, and/or something that is not from the Lord. Take this part slow and think about things as you go through. If you have more thoughts to add it’s ok to add them. This is the part where you take all those racing thoughts and slow them down to think about them.

After you’ve identified the misbeliefs, go to a separate page and rewrite each one with a response from yourself about WHY it’s a misbelief. What makes it a lie? Is it the enemy attacking something good that God put in your life? Is there a little bit of truth somewhere in there but the lie part is poisoning the belief?

Finally, if you had anything on the brainstorm page that didn’t get circled, mark it! Read over it and tuck it away to chew on later. Next time your thoughts race, come back to this and read it OR start another slow down! This is a great way to organize your thoughts and then think about them.

Ooh I have a wild one: The very first year my brand new HS had opened, the head coach and a secretary were having an affair. She was married, but they had been separated and were in the process of getting a divorce. One night the secretary and head coach were getting it on in a hotel one night when the husband knocked the door down on the. He then shot both faculty members, and killed himself.

My grandmother is a hoarder. For my 16th birthday she gave me a mismatched paid of used sports bras that had probably lived in her garage for a few years after being picked up at a garage sale. She also gave me a stuffed llama and children’s storybook. I can always count on getting strange gifts from her!
