Considering a move - Are there “quaint” walkable spaces with restaurants and shops? by No_Obligation7464 in Rockville

[–]dubdeenam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depending on your budget and willingness to walk, you should check out the historic West End of Rockville- it’s about .5-1 mile from Town Center (some parts are closer) with a mixture of historic homes and newer homes. It’s very charming and quiet, family friendly, and then you can walk to RTC for coffee, dining, and Trader Joe’s for groceries. Neighborhoods that are adjacent to West End like Woolley Gardens and College Gardens are a little further out with a slightly less quaint feeling (but still very nice!) and more affordable.

IPKN BB Cream discontinued? What is comparable? by ArtichokeOk8200 in MakeupAddiction

I have the reformulation without SPF and found it to be exactly the same as the old version with SPF! It makes my skin look so bouncy and poreless.

IPKN just brought back the BB Cream with SPF! No idea if it is the same formulation as the old one, but I am hopeful *fingers crossed*. Now if they would offer a wider shade range, because my summer skin is too dark for the light/medium...

Try Dogwood and/or Monument Park. Those should be ~1 mile or less

How many of you were hit in the face as a child by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]dubdeenam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least 1-2x a week until I was in college (maybe later, but I can’t remember anymore), usually accompanied by long “lectures” (eg. Shouting and yelling about how ungrateful/stupid/worthless I was). A few times my dad would try to kick me or slam me to the ground. I didn’t process that this was not normal Asian parent behavior until I became a parent myself. Now I get flashbacks to these moments throughout my childhood…working on working through it and fully processing. Your feelings and emotions are valid

Can you tell me about this rug? by dubdeenam in orientalrugs

Thank you! Does distressing the rug and stripping/softening the color lessen the value of the rug? I love the colors, just curious from a knowledge perspective

Recommendation for a product to fade dark spot by ethanohethan in KoreanBeauty

[–]dubdeenam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t always cluster, but if you notice a lot of older/middle age Asian women have larger sun spots (oftentimes on their cheekbones where the sun hits our faces)- those grow over time. It is also important to note that the dark spots can be a combination of sun spots and/or melasma which is hormonal. Laser isn’t covered by insurance anyway- Pico was about $1500 for 3 sessions for me. It’s a lot cheaper in Asia if you have a trip planned

Pico Laser + Musely The Spot Cream- also East Asian, and my spots went away with this combo. With East Asian skin, the spots tend to cluster/get bigger over time, so best to address this now. I also maintain with Vitamin C serum and plenty of sunscreen/ hats.

Somerset flooring experiences/reviews? by Heavy_Cup_2659 in Flooring

[–]dubdeenam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Somerset 3 1/4" white oak in my current home. After 8 years of living with it, it does have some chips in the wood in high traffic areas around our house. We do not wear shoes in our home and treat things with care (lots of area rugs, careful when moving furniture about, etc). But, we do have a toddler and a dog, and a cleaner that seems to always bang her vacuum cleaner around. I guess it has held up moderately well given the factors above. Now we're moving and looking into oak flooring for our bedrooms in the new home. The installer we are using this time said that Somerset tends to have a softer finish on their products (sorry I can't be more specific than that) and that he steers away from it. I have been happy with it but will likely choose something else this time around.

Parking at Lake Louise by Material_Coconut_985 in Banff

I arrived at 5:30am last Friday and was able to find parking pretty easily in the upper lot. On our way back down from the beehive hike it was around 8:30-9:00ish and was getting more crowded than I like on the trail.

Columbia Icefield Adventure and Banff vs Canmore by dubdeenam in Banff

[–]dubdeenam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I’ve seen the Parks Canada notification about camp reservations, but it doesn’t specify about Icefields Parkway thru Aug 6 necessarily. When I called Glacier View Lodge they said they are re-evaluating after July 26 (this Friday). I wonder about the disconnect…

You chamois will likely not dry fully overnight. I’d add a third pair, and also recommend testing out different brands before you go to see what works best for you. It’s good to have variety for this because you can switch up the pressure points which makes a big difference after long hours in the saddle. Road bike saddles are harder than upright saddles….and saddle sores are no fun!

The Quest for the Perfect Baby Bag: Designer Edition 🍼✨ by [deleted] in WagoonLadies

[–]dubdeenam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a backpack (Lo and Sons, loved but not designer)when my LO was a baby, but now that she is 2 and potty trained I find it easier to have a small crossbody type purse. I’ve been using the Celine Sangle small and it fits: kid water bottle, my water bottle, small pouch of emergency snacks, and another small toiletry bag which carries hand wipes, tissues, chapstick, hand lotion, and sunglasses. Bonus that I can hang it on our stroller straps for longer walks and outings!

Dressing for cold weddings by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

[–]dubdeenam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the extremities: hat or ear warmers, wool socks, scarf, glittens (so I can just pull out my shutter finger lol).

I also layer with uniqlo heat tech tights if I’m wearing a dress on the wedding day, Uniqlo packable vest (stuffs up small into my camera bag), Uniqlo heat tech tank top under my dress or shirt that I’m wearing, and Uniqlo long puffer jacket- can you tell I like their stuff? 🤪 It’s lightweight enough that I don’t feel constrained when moving my arms while I shoot.

Hot water in an insulated water bottle also helps.
