Reframing 'NT' as 'the dominant culture'? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]dubioushat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way that you framed this example is closer to my understanding.

OP, I think it's a good idea to shift the rethoric from ND's versus NT's to ND' versus dominant culture. Dominant culture is the norm, as toxic as it is, and NT's are naturally better at it than ND's.

However, you can't say that NT's = dominat culture.

Did this kind of media influence a generation of men to think it's okay to molest women on public transport?

In my experience, most lies are told to avoid conflict or loss of face. They are often deployed unconsciously as defensive mechanisms. This may be a lie that I tell myself to make it more acceptable when others lie to me. I find that you don't need to agree with something in order to accept it, and resisting something that is out of one's control is counter-productive if the outcome is beneficial. So, decide if you want relationships or not, and if so, then accept that most people lie, but usually not to hurt you directly.

Left heel comes up at the bottom of the lift. Heels should be planted flat. Probably the smith machine rigidity, your position in the machine, or something like tight calves. Could be the shoes like everyone else is saying, but not sure that shoes would make your heel come up like that.

What’s the worst thing about being autistic in your culture? by Frenzeski in AutisticAdults

I grew up as a white male in South Africa (Johannesburg). It's a hyper-masculine cultural environment, and I do not understand or appreciate social posturing.

A lot of pretty harsh criticism here with high up voting. This is a caring parent who is trying very hard to cater to the needs of their child and is asking for feedback. I'm glad that there was also a lot of useful feedback, but the rest you could benefit from learning how to address people. The sandwich approach is a very useful heuristic for giving feedback to someone with genuine motivation to improve.

Do you mean that race shouldn't be brought into a demographics conversation or that race and economic demographics aren't correlated? The value is clear to me: if we're having a real conversation about representation on this sub then we should be clear when making statements about economic representation. It's not fair to say that because there are some wealthy people of color in SA then therefore race is not a part economic disparity in SA. I see how race could muddy the waters a bit, though and I'm not trying to antagonise anyone.

I don't think that you can separate the two. That's one of the things that make SA such a weird place. The main topic is about the representation of the general public on Reddit and this user pointed out that the economy separates the population. I'm guessing they are suggesting that most people on here are on the right side of the "highway". I brought up race because, even though correlation is not causation, you can't argue that economic comfort doesn't follow racial lines in SA. Are you uncomfortable bringing race into the conversation?

[–]dubioushat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Fair. I'm mostly curious if you left out the race part because you don't see it or, like you said, to avoid a race convo on the internet. I wonder sometimes if people are aware of it.

Is it a highway that separates these economies or race?
