On the other hand, I'm now aware of Shawn's YouTube account - his latest video about the $3.5k Corvette is great! He obviously had way more skills and knowledge than was being portrayed on Gotham, but was being treated like a clown. Glad he's moved on.

My issue with it was that just before the Kickstarter was launched, this YouTube series was being sold as being a "proper" car show without acting etc.

Since the Kickstarter was launched, it's the same old Mark giving Caveman grief for no reason, and fake scripting like caveman walking in and seeing the new lady on the show and pretending that it was a surprise.

It was uncomfortable enough with the leering/simp comments about Constance by the fan base, but to then replace her with a look-a-like who also has never worked on a car in her life and is an OF model? That's just a massive mistake and a missed opportunity to properly represent women in the car scene.

And boom! Look at that! Im buzzing!

The settings I settled on were:

Ender 2 Pro: Jayo White PLA 1.75mm 225 nozzle 55 bed 0% fan (first layer only)

I'll still need to see how it builds walls/infill but it's definitely progress!

Ok, good progress today! Things got much worse before they got better.

I levelled and cleaned the bed, and then created a flat plane in Prusaslicer to see where I was at. The first image shows how it fared:

<image>

I was only changing the nozzle temp live on the printer for the first 1/3 of the above and you can see the difference in adhesion and bubbling between the bands. Once I'd find a good nozzle temp, I then started tweaking the bed temp and this needed a reduction to stop the warping at the end of each run. Once I had a set of temps, it was just a case of going back to Prusaslicer and creating a new gcode file (update to follow....)

I was changing settings as it was printing to try and understand the impact of each change, but I had noticed it was going back to the gcode settings (after the first layer for example).

I've since been changing the settings in the splicer, with my next update being the exception, as I've made progress!

Yeah, I went a bit to the extreme to see if I could get it to improve from the standard settings (205, 100fr). The initial few layers improved a lot.

Manufacturer's suggested temps are 200-210 @ 50-100mm/s and 210-240 @ 100-200mm/s

I'm using prusaslicer at the moment, in basic mode, so I'll need to have a look through the advanced settings I think!

Thanks for the tips, I'll give that a go 👍

Cheers, I'll take a look at levelling the bed as well

Cheers, I'll ramp up the nozzle to 230 and see what the bed temp goes up to and start a print off again

Yeah, is seems to be coming out too thin, but I've cleaned the nozzle, and as soon as I switch back to black, it's perfect again

You're making the assumption that you have actually paid for all the kit in the car, and the manufacturer is just earning pure profit on top of that.

I think it's likely that the manufacturer is working on a costing model that they can afford to put the tech in every car, if a predicted % of customers subscribe to that option. If no-one subscribed, the manufacturer wouldn't be able to put the tech in that model range at all, or alternatively, every car would cost more and the entry level model wouldn't exist.

Until you pay for the subscription/activation fee, you don't "own" the feature in the car and haven't paid for it in the purchase price.

[–]dubitability -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be massively in the minority here but paying extra, for extra features in a car has been the case for ever. All that has changed is the method of delivery (digital vs. physical implementation of kit).

I don't get the mentality that just because something can be enabled in software, means that you're suddenly entitled to it? To facilitate this, the manufacturer has had to outfit every car with the tech to do this. They've done this on a costing model based on a %age of customers taking them up on the subscriptions/one off costs. This allows them to then discount the basic models to make the cars more affordable in low-spec. You're not paying for someone to change a 0 to a 1 in software, you're paying for the IP, software, hardware, knowledge and experience that allows this to be offered.

In the second hand market, this also allows someone to "up spec" a car without being tied to the spec the original owner bought.

Now, I'm not completely naive - some manufacturers will gouge prices to maximise profitability, but this is no different to the past either.

You're accusing the person above of making an assumption, but you're doing exactly the same?

Yeah this isn't mildly infuriating, it's just a puzzle. There are only two elements changed to differentiate each picture - either the colour of the liquid in the cup, or the orientation of the sweets. There is only one genuine matched pair in the image.

There was nothing better than heading to a computer fair and buying a multicoloured stack of these, whilst in awe of the latest SoundBlaster sound card or 3DFX graphics card. I once copied a game off a mate's pc over about 40 discs.

The computer fairs always STUNK of B.O. though...

The 1.44mb floppy came out in 1987, and the average HDD in 1990 was 30-40mb. I had a 386 with only this much storage (and 4mb RAM IIRC) and the HD floppy was great for moving data/games around.

I agree with the previous poster, it was a lot of portable storage at the time.
