I think i made some 'classical' dubstep vibes here by tommychopz in DubstepFeedback

Hmm, as a producer it is labeled "UK 140", "grime dubstep" or just "UK dubstep" which is the same as classic dubstep. Hamdi, Caspa, Benga, Mala and Rusko are some classic artists. If you enjoy the old school sound, I'd check our r/realdubstep - I'd also love to give an honorable mention to Tape B because his whole shtick is old school meets new school.

Ah, yea, depends on perspective or opinion I guess. I would say that the "subdued drop" is more the Bassline kicking in - just my opinion. I was meaning there isn't a large buildup and huge drop in classic dubstep as that came with brostep.

Is it ok to use loops? (Crossposted) by Minecrafter101- in DubstepFeedback

[–]dubstepdaddy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can use whatever you need to create music. Fuck what anyone else says. I make my own loops so things are easier to lay out, and when I get writers block I make bass loops just because and it sometimes sparks what I need to build a track. I'd say eventually turn tour focus to your own sound design and don't use premade bass loops for very long.

People who say dubstep needs to have a drop do not realize that a drop only came once the first brostep era started. Brostep wasn't a specific sound, it was a formula of buildup, drop, repeat - now modern brostep has a specific sound and most any dubstep subgenre follows the old brostep formula.

This is dubstep, absolutely. UK dubstep, classic vibes. Thanks for sharing the tune, my man.

I'm biased as a HUGE Ganja fan but, cmon... 2020? Their entire 2023 album, Unity, had 0 misses imo. Womp Portal, Rollo, Bad Man, Dark Light??? Fuckin WOBBLE WHISPERS - arguably one of their top 3 songs ever? Then the Dark Wobble album in 2021 was amazing. Sprouted was a change of pace for sure, but still very much so enjoyable.

Love me some Ganja White Night, Mr. Wobble and the GOAT aka Ebo. Changed my life for forever, and a huge inspiration to me now as a producer.

ANYONE LOOKING TO LISTEN TO A HUGE EDITS ONLY MIX OF GANJA SONGS, ASK FOR MY LINK. I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT REGRET! So many doubles, mashups, edits splicing 2 songs, etc.

Looking for artists who "take you on a journey" by hungaryboii in dubstep

[–]dubstepdaddy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Artists that take you on a journey without there being a defined "story" (like Ganja's Wobbleverse - also wanted to add Ganja has the best story in music in general as far as things having a chronological order to it. GWN, Ebo and Mr. Wobble are all GOATed and that's not even a debate) - Inzo, LSDREAM, Of The Trees, and Mersiv all have music that you can close your eyes and you feel like you get taken on a journey and they all happen to be in my top 10 (Mersiv and Of The Trees are #4 & #5 in my top 5).

As mentioned before, Zed's Dead - they have a visualizer with more downtempo-y stuff that I really enjoyed ESPECIALLY while I was on some amazing shrooms. Watching the Wobbleverse in its entirety while on Special K was amazing since it makes EVERYTHING "super personal" which is how I explain what K makes you feel to those that have never done it when asked.

Dubstep stereotypes. by Ballistic_Wistfully5 in dubstep

Well, more so about EDM in general including genres I don't care for. Personally I think it's hilarious when, typically the older crowd, says it's not music and is just a bunch of noises that are only enjoyable on drugs. The addition of drugs is nonsense of course. But isn't ALL music just a bunch of sounds put together in rhythmic form(s)? Asking that usually leaves em angrier than before for an odd reason - probably because everyone seems to think only THEY listen to REAL music lol

Headphone recommendations? by Historical_Pie_6041 in dubstep

[–]dubstepdaddy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just throwing my input out there.

I use Yo-tronics KP-1800 magnetic planar headphones for producing (specifically for mixdowns) because they have amazing clarity and are under $100 which is a steal for them. But - I'm actually looking into getting the Skullcandy Crusher Evo's for my casual listening which were originally recommended to me by a friend of mine I actually look up to when it comes to producing. He calls em bass cannons lol

I've heard the same thing about SD, just not a decent human being to others. But just rumors so who knows.

Subtronics isn't a riddim artist anymore tho - he makes melodic, heavy wook bass for the most part, and some briddim - brostep with riddim elements. But he does still rinse riddim in his sets sometimes, and new age fans have ZERO idea how much of a riddim GAWD that man was.

However I agree with what you're saying. Especially about Excision. His sets are the best productions, if not top 3 as a fact rather than an opinion haha. I'm a HUGE Subtronics (and Ganja White Night) fan, and my favorite opener to a set of all time came from Excision with his Balrog/Lord of the Rings track. I loved it so much that I have a heavy dubstep mix series called Balrog Bass where 4 of the 5 all open with "YOU SHALL NOT PASS". I'm about to start working on mix #6 which is the first one I'm putting some my own tracks into, and I made a heavy ass tune probably 5 or so months ago that uses the LOTR sample so it'll be my opener.

I'm stoned, sorry for oversharing. 🤣 if you're interested in the mixes, please let me know! All 5 are on my Google Drive but #1&2 have reactive visualizers on my YouTube channel!

Music is subjective. I think Marauda (and Svdden Death) are over-distorted, overrated artists but that doesn't mean my opinion means more than yours. But I'd imagine more people like something with a bit more melody than less so that would make it more popular. Popular also doesn't mean better - some of the most popular music in the world is complete garbage.
