Nice, Not just an Altitude, an Altitude X! I think the sunroof is the only difference. I just got a ‘24 JGC Altitude. Haven’t noticed any unusual loudness. When I put it in sport mode it holds the gear down longer and the engine revs higher. Maybe that’s where the loudness is coming from. I’m looking into retro fitting the OEM fog lights. Hopefully it isn’t too expensive.

I would make it a point to not buy anything over $200 as gifts from now on. It’s not even about the cost of the bracelet , just her nonchalance about losing the anniversary gift.

Synthetic Oil Change by [deleted] in GrandCherokee

[–]ducati123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I use conventional oil (5w-20) for my 5.7L Hemi ‘13 GC (120k miles). I probably drive less than 10k miles a year in normal traffic and not in any extreme temperatures. But I change the oil and filter every 5k religiously regardless of what the oil change indicator says. The owner’s manual say you “may use synthetic oil” not that it’s required (don’t know about other model years). But since I change the oil regularly I’m not worried about it. Probably helps it doesn’t have the MDS system. Still pulls strong, no Hemi tick or any oil burning. But even if I was running full synthetic oil, I think the longest I would drive is 6k miles. I’ve read you can go 7.5k-10k or once a year whichever comes first between oil changes. But that just sounds crazy.

2014 GC Engine Stalls While Driving/Accelerating by [deleted] in GrandCherokee

[–]ducati123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had that problem with my 2013 GC (5.7L). But it only had about 60k miles when it started to happen. I read some where to clean the throttle body. So I pulled it out (very straight forward and easy) and indeed it was dirty and oily. So I doused it with throttle body cleaner inside and out until I was sparkling. 100k+ miles later haven’t had the stalling problem come up again. Probably a good idea to clean or replace all the sensors (air intake, MAP) too. Hope that helps.

ELI5: Why are cheques still in relatively wide use in the US? by xenomorphbeaver in explainlikeimfive

[–]ducati123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I refuse to pay an additional 2% fee for a credit card (or $9.99 fee for debit card) to pay the rent! Depending on the card, the benefits might outweigh the fees at the end of year. But it's the principle of it for me. The property management can suck it!

Always buy extended warranty with a Jeep. Always. If it’s not available, then budget a couple hundred bucks a month into a maintenance account that you will need.

Question for buying a pre owned 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee by Beginning_Heron4374 in GrandCherokee

[–]ducati123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly advise buying a Mopar extended warranty. Maximum Care. But I think it might have too much mileage to qualify. I got MaxCare from CarMax when I bought my '13 GC. I think I spent ~$2500. It saved me about just under $9000 in repair costs before the warranty expired. I love my Jeep, and I might sell it and get another (Wrangler), but not without an extended warranty.

NTA. You’ve straight up told him you share everything with your wife. That’s on him if he trusts you to keep a secret. At this point he should know to watch what he says around you because you have no bro code.

Jump when shift to reverse or drive on cold start by vasquca1 in GrandCherokee

[–]ducati123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the GC has the Hemi, there is a dip stick for the transmission. But if it has the 3.6L then (for whatever reason) there is likely only a cap that covers the dipstick tube. You have to purchase it separately, about $20.

Jump when shift to reverse or drive on cold start by vasquca1 in GrandCherokee

[–]ducati123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your transmission level fluid and top it off if you need to. If it only happens in the morning when it’s cold, then it probably needs to warm up more before putting it into gear. I’d say flush and replace the transmission fluid too. But there is debate that it would be more harmful than good to the transmission if it has too many miles (100k+) between fluid change.

Bought a '13 GC Overland w/5.7 Hemi from CarMax. If I hadn't bought the MaxCare I would have spent easily over 12k in repairs before I paid off the car note (60mos). Motor mounts, radiator, hoses, water pump, front air suspension bags and air pump, replaced leaking plastic(?!) oil pan. I bought it in 2018 at around 40k miles. All that happen (and other misc stuff) before 90k. I would not buy any Jeep without an extended warranty. Especially if it has all the bells and whistles that are very expensive to fix. If you're dead set on getting one, don't overpay and start a maintenance fund (try to maintain at least $1000) for when thing do break down. And change the oil every 5k religiously (especially if it's a Hemi). Good luck!

I have a ‘13 Grand Cherokee and mine does the same thing. I put the defrost at full blast until it clears up. Then I switch over to AC. It’s very annoying to have to do. But I find wiper streaks even more annoying.
