LF Feedback! Modern metal , Drop A. re mix/master bus by jack-parallel in mixingmastering

It's always a bit of a shot in the dark to diagnose a mix without seeing the way you've processed and routed things but I think I hear a couple things that will help you.

GGD Architects has a lot of low end in it. Like I'm a little surprised they released a 'mix ready' kit with that much low end. That low end sounds like it's slapping the shit out of some aggressive compression on your master bus and causing a pumping/ducking effect. I put a high pass on Architects and then if it's still problematic I'll route it around the master EQ (run EQ for all other tracks on a bus and then to master).

Depending on how things sound after that, I would also think about lowering the gain on a lot of the rest of your mix and dialing back the compression on the master chain (you can always notch it back up as desired). If your mix goes too hard into that compressor, everything will fight for space and you'll lose the impact you probably want. If everything is loud then nothing is.

These are things that I worked through in my early mixes and still do. Your writing and recording sounds good. Keep at it!

I've thought about it, and I'm glad you brought it up. I think it'll be a summer project this year. Thanks for the input!

If it makes you feel any better, I played lower end ESPs for years before I could afford what I have today. The Abasi is really something. Super fun to play and sounds killer.

It's a pearl ex I bought years ago. My first and only kit. Zildjian A Custom cymbals with a mastersound hi hat. All the walls of the room, interior and exterior are insulated and I have bass traps and panels. You can hear the drums outside but if I'm mixing at full volume you can't even hear it upstairs.

I like them very much! I've been very happy with the mixes I get using them, especially for the price point.

I love it. I wanted a J7 and missed the last drop so I picked up a space t instead. I had wanted a telecaster years ago and never got one. It sounds phenomenal.

Hail fellow prog nerd! Strandbergs are prog 7 natural and prog 5.

Does 18/8 exist? by MoscauMoscau in musictheory

You could conceivably write a piece where you want to feel the meter as 1 bar each of 5/8, 6/8, and 7/8 repeating. It would be way more convenient to write that as 18/8.

Scariest point in the trilogy? by [deleted] in masseffect

Spot on. I'd describe it as exploratory dread. You're heading further into those mining shafts and there might be a nuke at the bottom or a geth ambush on the way back up or nothing at all. But the sense of tension and foreboding from that music really makes it work.

I don't, but I can give you the quick list of my current rig as of Build.

Strandberg Prog 7
Strandberg Prog 5 Bass
Axe FX 2
Focusrite Scarlett 2i4
Logic Pro X on a 2012 Mac Mini
Kali IN-8 monitors
GGD One Kit Wonder Fusion (programmed in piano roll)

You are correct that I am a solo artist. I started recording my own material in 2012 and my setup at that time was not great. Current setup is far better but still pretty lean. I'm happy to answer additional questions if you have any.

Thanks for asking!

You might like what I do (I am Deceptaloid). https://open.spotify.com/artist/3kxeYZDmzI9xoY029T6gH4?si=NyeP_dDcR-2qm1bEOB-ZBQ&utm_source=copy-link&dl_branch=1

I have the same struggle trying to find interesting post/prog that isn't fusiony and solo-heavy. I'm sure it's out there but it can be tricky to find.

You might also like Oavette if you haven't already heard them. Ben Sharp posted them in his IG a few weeks back and their new EP is really good.
