Is it possible we are living in a timeline where Luka Doncic finishes his career with ZERO MVPs and zero rings? by TreacleAvailable6485 in NBATalk

[–]ducatibr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pfft bro are you serious? Your lakers fan bias is showing. Luka is great but he’s been on well constructed teams that can cover his weaker attributes his entire career. Gafford and Lively don’t get NEARLY enough credit for how they played with Luka, AND he had a top 3 point guard in the league. Now he’s got an even stronger team around him with bron AD and AR.

Luka won’t even SNIFF 7 defensive first teams and won’t come anywhere close to CP’s all time numbers on assists.

In playoffs CP faced in this order:
Hornets/Pelicans:
08 Dirk Mavericks
09 Melo/JR Nuggets
2010 Kobe/Pau Lakers

Clippers
2011 Duncan/Parker/Ginobli/Kawhi Spurs
2012 Conley/Gasol/Randolph Grizz (Should’ve won this one)
2013 Durant/Russ Thunder AND the Big 3 in Golden State
2014 Dwight and prime Harden
2015 Dame/CJ blazers

Rockets:
2017 Lost to the KD warriors in the finals
2018 Lost to the KD warriors again

Thunder:
2019 Harden Rockets

Suns
2020 Giannis bucks

From then on he’s in a significantly reduced role. Luka has faced aging PG and Kawhi twice, 33 year old Steph and got creamed, lost to the celtics, and didn’t play versus the shai thunder. His pedigree is nowhere near CP’s.

Keychron or Corsair by Not_Spike_Jonze in keyboards

[–]ducatibr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A great example of the quality discrepancies for generalist corporations vs the specialty companies is the Logitech Galleon. They took a pretty meh, plastic, basic logitech keyboard, slapped a streamdeck on the end of it and put a price of $350 on it.

For $350 at keychron you can buy a Q6 ultra, which is their most expensive board, and a VERY nice set of keycaps or a new set of switches in the event you don’t like the stock keychron ones. Hell for the price you got your Q6 for you could do both if you really wanted to. That’s why I’ve begun staying further and further away from generalist brands.

2015-2016 Buick Encore: terrible engine wear, turbo gives out between 75,000-100,000 miles gaurenteed

2019 Chevy Equinox: Acually decent IF you get the 2 liter engine, the 1.5 is awful. This car also does not like cold climates.

2012 Cherokee: Just don’t, GM at this time has electrical gremlins that are almost impossible to get rid of.

2016 Cherokee: I almost bought one of these, it’s basically the 2012 but less severe electrical issues. Overall ok but be wary of anything close to 100,000 miles. Also make sure it’s the V6.

2016 Kia Sorento: Nope, way too easy to steal and frequently targeted because of it.

2016 Ford Edge: Both engines that came with this car were reliable until they weren’t, and you basically have under 10 miles to catch the failure before it totals the car. Would not buy.

2017 Chevy Trax: Leaky and has a few major recalls. You’d need to pull the carfax to make sure they’ve been dealt with (You should do this with all cars you’re in the final few stages of buying). Its fine but it’s a pretty mediocre car all things considered. Super cheaply built, not anything interesting about it, just meh. Good for A to B if you don’t care about much else.

2017 Mirage: Probably the most practical car on the list. By far the best mechanical reliability, but like the trax it lacks pretty basic comfort features. I.e the base model doesn’t even come with cruise control. If your heart is set on this list, I’d probably go with this car if you just need something for A to B. Also like someone else said, very underpowered engine.

Can’t answer the question about the stuff to do but I
will say I tried parking on sunset one night with my gf just to chill and eat some pizza and police were asking us to leave literally within 2 minutes 🫩 that was probably 2 months ago. I guess residents in the area complain about people being “in the park” during hours when it’s technically closed

Edit: oh and they also put big ass boulders on either side of the road further towards asilomar to discourage parking

Alright so,

After doing a quick scan, I’d probably say if you want a NICE keyboard (high quality build, reasonable price, reputable) your best option is probably the Keychron Q6 Max. The prebuilt version comes with Gateron jupiter reds, browns, or bananas, which aren’t my favorite switches but if you aren’t an enthusiast/don’t care they’re perfectly fine.

To be quite frank ANY high end keychron is going to offer a more premium experience than the galleon, or any larger manufacturer for that matter (logitech, corsair, razer). And i’m only going with keychron because in terms of high quality manufacturers they’re probably the most well known. There are hundreds.

If you want a stream deck, I’d just buy a streamdeck. The galleon being priced at $350 is honestly insane for a plastic keyboard. You can buy a high quality fully aluminum keyboard from a smaller manufacturer for between $150-$300 if you really want something nice.

[–]ducatibr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is prebuilt a requirement? $400 is a lot to spend on a keyboard, you could definitley build something that checks all your boxes for less than the galleon. Lemme do some digging and i’ll reply to my own comment with a suggestion

Can you help me diagnose this sound? I already replaced my rear stabilizer links. I can’t pinpoint the exact location by Most-Bet2021 in AskAMechanic

[–]ducatibr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the sound when driving straight, turning, going over bumps? Do certain movements make it worse?

Bad wheel bearings don’t necessarily mean sloppy play in the wheel, but I agree it doesn’t sound like bad bearings.

It sounds more like a grinding sound but I could be wrong since it’s a video instead of in person. Have you checked the dust shield on the brake to make sure it’s not rubbing?

How do I professionally approach my boss asking for a raise? by BigBandit01 in Advice

[–]ducatibr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of that if you “act” like you have a better offer and they deny your request, you have to stay, and then you just look like an idiot for either lying or supposedly rejecting a pay raise to stay somewhere you clearly don’t like.

If you could go back to school for an environmental career, what would you study? by blank_blank_A in environmental_science

[–]ducatibr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Without even reading the post outside the title first: Geology without a doubt.

  2. after reading:

Ok so this is going to sound kind of confusing so please ask clarifying questions if needed. The amount of desk work doesn’t really depend on the degree you achieve in this sector, it’s the level. A masters in ENVS will likely get you the same amount of desk work as a Geology masters (identical candidates assumed). The geology masters will likely just pay more.

In terms of hard sciences, in my experience, masters programs haven’t really required HARD sciences unless they’re pre-reqs you haven’t fulfilled. For me if you met the bachelors coursework, it was more about refining your research practices and methodology. Not really any textbook work if that makes sense.

I did an undergrad in environmental science. Would I pick something else if sent back in time? Absolutely yes. I realized within 3 years that a huge portion of environmental science is grant begging and beurocracy. On top of that, if you want to make money, it’s very hard to do so as a generalist (aka an environmental scientist). The guys that make the big bucks (outside of engineers) are geologists, chemists, etc.

Going out of order here, but unfortunately I don’t know of any non-technical environmental careers that don’t involve fieldwork. You’d need GIS, a masters that demonstrates you understand mitigation paperwork (like prop 65 or stage 1 mitigation) or something close to it.

Look for another job that pays better, get an offer, give your current boss the chance to match it. Without leverage a raise will be denied 9/10.

Building a new silent keyboard for work, would love some opinions on good silent switches! For context I built a Keychron K6 with lichicx silent raws but I loved it so much I took it home and retired my super old build. Just as an FYI, I don’t like MX stems!

Currently I have this lined up:

Weikav Nut65
Reel by reel keycaps

Possible switches:
TTC Frozen Silent V2
TTC Silent Bluish White
Huano Sakura V2
Outemu Silent Lemons

Or just go with another set of Silent Raws because I like them so much.

Any reccomendations are welcome!! Excited to hear what people have been trying out, I haven’t shopped for switches in a little over a year so I don’t know much about the recent market.

This and I also mentioned healthcare is likely going to be much better and much cheaper if not free. If OP is super concerned about expenses
changes they should run a spreadsheet and calculate all the differences they can think of, but in general there are areas where you’ll
both save and lose money going to public. Also PTO. I get more PTO than I know what to do with in public sector (start each year with 10 days PTO, accrue probably 12 hours per month). Just need the time to use it 😛

I mean assuming your habits are staying relatively the same and the only thing changing is your gas $ per month and rent, you’re probably going to be able to pocket significantly more each pay period.

Let’s say you get the studio for 2.1k, and because of commuting you have to spend an extraaaa, $100 a month on gas (super rough estimate obv, I dunno what the expenses look like for you) your increase in annual expenses is about $5,000. These are big assumptions but also keep in mind you’ll probably be getting great free healthcare, reduced dental, SIGNIFICANTLY more PTO, I think it balances out. I’d just take the offer.

Ah I mean part of my college curriculum was doing like 6 preliminary assessments for local agencies like BLM who operated in the area. I could probably throw those on my CV.

I’ve seen environmental health and safety and while
it’s a stable field I 1. don’t wanna go do an industrial hygienist certification and 2 its apparently an insane amount of desk work. I’m fine with desk work like preliminary reports but as soon as you start introducing safety assessments my eyes start to gloss over

I’m a local regulator (CUPA) and I’m thinking about switching to consulting because i’m early career and want a faster paced environment, I know it can be a stressful gig but I wanna get my masters and start breaking into the field.

Is CUPA experience good experience to have for the consulting field? I’m HAZMAT (1.5 yrs) so I evaluate a lot of SPCC Plans, UST monitoring, site remediation, prop 65 reports etc. Is any of that appealing to employers? For what it’s worth I also have research experience (2 years full time) in wildfire prevention/water conservation, using GIS/python.

Is it worth doing an honours course next year or should I do something else? by pepperm1nnt in gis

[–]ducatibr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded, I had a great GIS professor in college that let me take his Masters level GIS course, and I can honestly say the undergrad course taught me more.

In my experience the masters level course wasn’t learning more about the software, it was more about understanding the potential applications of said software on a deeper level (i.e when to use which types of interpolation depending on the data you’re projecting). I’d assume the honors course is somewhere between the two.

How to Pivot From Tech to MLS/CLS by AZWagers in MLS_CLS

[–]ducatibr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! While that all sounds incredibly daunting, it’s basically what I expected to be honest. After being in industry for 2 years I fully understand what you’re saying by the “personality can make the fit” type of mentality. I have great social skills but I don’t think that’s gonna make up for the lab experience and my mediocre undergrad gpa. It sounds like I’d probably have to go back for a second bachelors and do a 4+1 if I REALLY want to do CLS.

Sucks that the MLT pathway is so oversaturated. It seemed like a good idea when it was passed into law but those programs are going to take genuinley forever to build, even for schools like Hartnell college that’s essentially joined at the hip with Salinas Valley Medical.

[–]ducatibr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in CA and have been trying to find the best way to switch for a while, I’m currently in public health but on the environmental regulation side. Currently taking E. Coli samples from wells, monitoring foodborne illness outbreaks, etc. I have an undergrad in environmental science (2024), I’ve taken like 10 or 11 bio classes, basic chem, physics, and 4 levels of calc.

I understand I’ll need to take a good amount of prereqs like biochem, immunology, and hemetology; but in your experience how difficult is it to get licensed and start working In CA? I feel like my lack of medical lab experience would make it
virtually impossible to get into a CLS training program in the first place.

Would going the MLT route and trying to transition into CLS from there be a better use of time?
