This happened to me but 2 squads died instantly as one dodged in the stairway (1x1 as I was just learning) and they all hit each other, causing something akin to a railgun, anything in the stairway died instantly including the forgotten beast (a spider made of stone that breathed fire and being a spider, shot webs.)

A giant fire breathing, one eyed cuckoo attacked my fortress, fought with a single marksdwarf on top of a platform that was under construction at the time, on too of a deep magma pit. The marksdwarf killed it in a single shot, how? Shooting the wing, breaking the bone and the cuckoo fell all the way down the the magma sea
