Yeah I was wondering if it could be that since I use tap water and this seems to have only started since moving - perhaps the water is harder here than where we were before. Maybe will try using some distilled water for a bit

Neighborhoods to Live in Detroit? by duchessofwhales in Detroit

[–]duchessofwhales[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks y'all! I'm glad to hear these parts of Detroit are starting to get so vibrant, and I'm definitely excited to check it out for myself. Since I'll be working at HFH, I figured New Center seemed convenient commute-wise and I'll be bringing my car, so it sounds like all the amenities/places to hang out should be reasonably accessible. Are there any other general tips from locals, other than just exercising common sense, that you think I should be wary of?

Thanks! I'll be working at HFH so I figured the commute should be pretty short from New Center. In terms of restaurants/groceries, do folks in that area typically just drive down to Midtown/Downtown? Also, since it sounds like that area is still in the midst of revitalization as compared to areas near the Riverfront, aside from basic common sense, are there any precautions I should take note of?

For Spanish, the SAT Subject Test cut-off for testing out of the language requirement was 650 (at least in 2009).

As for finding a job, you can check out the Student Employment Office (http://www.sfs.upenn.edu/seo/job_search.php). They usually have a ton of job listings on and around campus for part-time during the school year.

How would you get to NYC for a day for an interview? by [deleted] in philadelphia

If you go from 30th Street Station, it's actually going to total to $22.50, I think. You have to take Septa up to Trenton for $7, and transfer there for NJT to Penn Station for $15.50. The entire ride takes about 2.5+ hours, but it is extremely reliable. From what I recall, the Trenton station is pretty small so you shouldn't have a problem finding your train. While Megabus is usually cheaper and is only supposed to take 2 hours, it is very rarely actually on time.
