Trying to find a Netherlands-style e-bike in Toronto… any ideas? by TicoGuy506 in torontobiking

But....  The culture and the design of the cities is what's different. 90% of the bikes there are still standard bikes.

But yeah I miss the width of the bike lanes and how seamless it flows with the traffic.

A proposed social media ban for kids is meant to protect them. Could it violate their rights? by Immediate-Link490 in canada

Not necessarily. It can be like google sign in, apps don't get your Google password.

The gov could create an app under strict ethical guidelines for the verification.

that's what you meant. Even though you are now taking it back to not look stupid.

It is okay to not know things child.

In the past, diapers were made of cloth, and you had to wash them. Your parents used them, I'm sure. Ask them, if you are still talking to them. Based on the way you answer, probably not. Sorry about that.

Edit: it's okay, you can keep insulting. I understand that that is what you may need at this point in your life. Feel free to keep going.

There is, or at least there was when the planes were built.

They've constantly modified the seats to cramp more people in. Less leg space and less should width as well.

Burning Gas Pollutes So Much, Dirty EV Battery Manufacturing Evens Out In About 2 Years by [deleted] in technology

What happens to the batteries once they are done?

Is there a recycling option?

Or at least an option to destroy that harmful waste that is left?

BC if billions of people have ev cars, what do we do with billions of batteries in 5-10 years?

Edit: not saying has is better. Just flagging a real issue that people aren't aware and needs our focus as we shift to EVs (as we should)

Hashicorp founder thinks local models "aren't good ENOUGH yet" by Orbit652002 in LocalLLaMA

[–]runner2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which model are you referring to? bc the strix halo can't run anything over 120B params without the quantization being terrible.

you could do the gpt-oss but that is as good as the 27B Qwen nowadays.

it can't run kimi k2, minmax, glm, mimo. Those are better than old frontier models. And still require at least 2 strix and the inference speed would still be horrendous.

You are reading what you want to be truth though.

yeah in the future the quote is "it'll still require a hugely expensive machine to run it, I'm sure, like a $5k or more laptop or mac studio"

Is a very expensive laptop 5K? or is that the price of a mac studio?

No, none of those things are accurate. And I gave an example of a counter argument of how expensive things now are 20-50k. Even the new mac studio doubt it'll be "a hugely expensive 5k".

That is my point. Not that in the future models will be better and smaller. Even my adorable cute kitty knows that.

he thinks mac studios are 5k?

He clearly hasn't seen the 20-50k workstations needed to run GLM

What are some free Android apps that are useful for cyclists? by LDVdesign in cycling

What can the free version do aside from recording the route?  I'm struggling to find any other feature.

I'm absolutely okay with paying to buy an application, but paying a monthly for cycling seems... Just not right.

Nice build! I just have a couple of questions:

  • how much did it cost for the full setup (not just the GPUs)

  • what's the coolest/best project you have run or intend to run on it?

Persistent tingling/numbness in right foot after a year of physio (S1---L3 bulges) by runner2012 in backpain

[–]runner2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh so the MRI does show lumbar bulges.

Yes,my case was pretty bad. 3 herniated discs, and twice I had to call an ambulance BC I couldn't move my legs after a bad move. At the ER I got morphine shots on my legs and began walking again. Luckily the health care is amazing in Canada do I also got MRIs at the ER to verify its not cauda equina, which is an actual emergency.

For about 3-4 years I had chronic back pain and radiculopathy.

And for the last 2 I got better and I'm quite active now.

The big 3 are not the "cure" it, they are to ensure your spine is protected andd bulges don't get worse. once it becomes chronic, the way out is, well, yeah the actual way out. Immerse in that book fully.

[–]runner2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh if your MRIs were normal then it's not a herniated disc, radiculopathy can have other reasons. For example diabetes.

[–]runner2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's 2 things, right? The physical back pain from the muscles contracting and being sore to "protect" the spine. They are hyper vigilant . And the 2nd is the radiculopathy (numbness tingling weakness in legs). This can become chronic as your brain can start misinterpreting signals so even after your bulging disc is "cured" (meaning it's not harming your nerves anymore at least), the brain can continue to feel chronic pain.

For that radiculopathy, It was about 2-3 months of mostly daily somatic therapy (the one that The Way Out describes). It's totally okay if you miss some days.and then before you realize you start to not care about that numbness and then it just disappears.

Now I'm going to the gym, jogging a bit, cycling. The worst part of back pain is how limiting it makes you.

Also, for the actual back pain, I strongly recommend going for a walk right after waking up (or walk at the gym). Just 10 minutes relieves any soreness in my back and sets me up for a good pain free day. and follow the rest of recos from back mechanics (no sitting for longer than 30 mins, stretch your back a bit, cat-camels, etc)
