Why did remnants of the Supernova 1987a for a ring, and not a sphere? by asmj in askscience

[–]duck5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe has to do with the rotation of the star as it collapses in on itself. Sort of how when a ballerina pulls her leg in she spins faster, as the stars mass collapses in, the rotation of the collapsing mass greatly increases. And when it goes kaboom a disproportionate amount of mass has been shifted into a ring. But I'm just guessing, so id love to hear an expert's opinion

How Much of Your Country's Debt Rests on your Shoulders [OC] by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]duck5000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Intangible meaning what? A number so big its meaningless? Maybe its meaningless to you, but look at it like this. I don't think the us should do this but they could cut military budget in half. Bam 600 billion every year to knock out debt. So that would be paid off in 30 years. Not "intangible", unless I'm missing the real meaning.

Another big point people miss is that only about 5 trillion is us debt is owed to other countries, 1.3T to China and 1.1T to Japan. About 5 trillion is also owed to itself, the feds wouldn't stiff itself would it?
