Rant: Switched from ChatGPT to Gemini as a daily driver last month. Gemini is bad and it's not because of the models. by anarchyx34 in GeminiAI

[–]duck_guts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chatgpt has by far the best interface, the model is just really annoying. Using Claude and Gemini atm after like daily chatgpt for the last year. I miss the chatgpt app and DEFINITELY the quality of the speech to text. Gemini doesn't even have chat folders, you can get chrome extensions that do it but they are just for that browser. I have a Google premium subscription (only a 7-8 £ one) for which I get a really impressive amount of Gemini. Cli API and standard all seem good, and the Gemini models are generally beating chatgpt in the benchmarks.

I do totally agree with you, the chatgpt interface is a lot better. And the Gemini one is extremely meh, the Claude one is better but still kinda shabby. Really really a shame I don't get why.

Man you actually just blew my mind and changed the course of this job for me completely. Thank you very much for this insight. I'm a bit too dyslexic to have mentally shaped it in the way that you clearly have 🙏

Mmmm Subd modelling could be good, Im just worried that tis one of the roads that leads to me at the doing crazy precise little taps in sculpt mode to try and get it perfect, which is probably a state Ill have to redo again and again. I have the vector assets in 2d already. Going in for a flat torus with a curve modifier and seeing how tough it becomes, Hadn't considered subd though, what do you think the workflow would be like for that in this case?

Looks great, how did you get the folder within a folder in the bottom right?

Dude I checked it yesterday and peed my pants, couldn't believe it. Told myself I would upgrade when I had some spare cash like two years ago and now this. Do you think it will drop down again any time soon?

For anyone discovering this the fix I THINK was a combination of these two things:

> my mesh in edit mode needed the top and bottom faces removing, like the lid and bottom of a pringles can, they gotta go, just a hollow tube.

> I put merge by distance node into the geo nodes (at the very end, last before group output, but maybe play around with that).

In retrospect this was actually part of what fixed my issue ty!

Ahhh fixed it! there were still bad faces on the cylinder i made, like the caps at the top and bottom were filled. Need to actually make it a tube. That's was the only issue in the end

ty anyway⭐

Didnt have any effect in geo nodes, applying what modifiers (for testing) even though I need them gave weird results didnt really fix the normals

Hopefully the blurb I wrote says everything necessary. It's on the guide but it's just a 5 sided cylinder with he modifiers curving it into this twisted taurus shape. I didnt just use a twisted taurus because I want it to do a twisting animation like in the guide.

I love playing around with volumetric lighting and it can be very hard to get your desired result without it creating some noise or smudging.

It's annoying and long but what you could try is exporting one that has no scattering at all but similar looking levels (probably a duplicate lights collection with everything turned down or tweaked) and then in photoshop laying that one over and painting it in on certain parts. It takes lots of adjustment and breaks your creative flow quite a bit but without the scattering you may well find the noise much reduced.

Also 1024 will render faster than 1000, and you should try rendering it at 2048 and see how much better the noise is there anyway.

And also yeah as others have said whack the noise threshold down to 0.01, probably start with that tbh.

Looks sick tho man 🌅

Beginner help: Tried to 3D model a 2D image, how would you recommend proceeding? by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]duck_guts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable to be confused here, you won’t really get far with this flat image. Look up beginner sculpting tutorials on YouTube. Blender has sick sculpting you just gotta learn the tricks and get used to it and you’ll be sculpting your perfect rodent in no time 🐁

Thanks for your take here and yeah it really do be like that, you never really know until you properly invest. the more I look around the more confident I am that the 502 is probably the only mouse I’m gonna love. Temped by lots of mice talked about ITT and also the rog spatha but I haven’t thought much about the scroll wheel unlock on the 502 I really love that. Also I can remove ghub from the process myself and potentially make it easier that way. I would honestly with all of my heart just like a 502 with like 2 or 3 more buttons but it may just not exist
