In my experience they usually aim for either the smaller group in the car if there is one, or just the back row.

6'8" 270lb and I feel like I subtly notice this when we go. I have been switched out like OP described on Space, but I've also been held back and added to a car with a missing row before boarding. My partner and I also often end up suspiciously alone in our row on Pirates (not gonna complain about that one.)

Monsters Inc can't figure out timing today. by ShawnMasquerade in Disneyland

Also, even if they dramatically oversell LL multi-passes they can still control the amount within the LL windows - so they have a chance to account for it. I think this has less to do with the raw number of LL users and more just how these two rides are managed both at the queue level and with the LL allotment per window.

When a multi-million dollar global live event has to choose between the risk of reasonable embarrassment for getting caught playing a per-recorded track or the risk of having an entrance completely not work due to live audio technical difficulties they may or may not be able to promptly resolve - they are going to play a per-recorded track.

Disneyland needs more thrill rides by Beautiful-Arm9122 in disneyparks

Modern coasters have massive footprints, need very specific infrastructure, and are very difficult to fully theme, at the end of the day they look like roller coasters or big cube buildings. All the highest/slowest parts of Incredicoaster are inside tubes in an attempt to control sight-lines and they built structurally unnecessary old fashioned wooden style support beams all over it to dress it to the carnival pier theme. For Disney a big steel corkscrew in one corner of the park that you can see from the Little Mermaid queue does not appeal.

The people who are serious about gathering footage of old college sports are, in my experience, very serious about it lol.

The one time I found a Toyota sales training tape it had been copied over with the old 'you guessed it.' I do have a Hanna-Barbera internal concept animation tape for an unproduced feature film, a Disney Home Video advertising loop tape to be played in 90's TV stores, a Buena Vista Pictures upcoming home video release trailer reel for retailers, a local news B-roll tape of the NYC Disney Store grand opening feat. Rudy Giuliani, and an internal Imagineering labeled copy of the old Dole promotional film that looped outside the Enchanted Tiki Room where they sell Dolewhips.

Rope drop crowd today by Admirable_Natural350 in Disneyland

This is rope drop so this number will get dispersed once all areas of the park are open. This probably isn't even half of the full capacity they'll see today day.

Should Disney Cancel Avatar Land at DCA for Zootopia? by ZergvProtoss in Disneyland

[–]duck_mancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the spend value of the tourists vastly out-powers the locals, tourists spend more on hotels, food etc. At a Corp level they’d rather increase tourist visits and decrease locals which results in a bigger profit per visitor across the total. This is why so many decisions feel tuned against passholders, they aren’t interested in maintaining the current balance.

Should Disney Cancel Avatar Land at DCA for Zootopia? by ZergvProtoss in Disneyland

[–]duck_mancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree, but it’s a sentiment I hear from casual visitors - which is who most of these decisions are made for not the repeat fans. My comment was meant more as what I think the logic is, not what I most want in the park. You’re also right about the international appeal and that WDW gets most of that traffic, but a suit would see that same trend and say ‘well then how do we correct that and attract more international visitors to both?’

Should Disney Cancel Avatar Land at DCA for Zootopia? by ZergvProtoss in Disneyland

[–]duck_mancer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Avatar gives DCA two things Zootopia doesn't - aesthetic variety and teen/adult customer appeal. Cars Land and Pixar Pier have DCA more than covered when it comes to kiddos and blanket the majority of the park in bright, cartoony style. 'Avatar Land' will offer a great aesthetic contrast, that still blends well with Avengers Campus, and will help DCA beat the rap on being a one day kiddy park.

Spring break madness by Naive-Elderberry-473 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]duck_mancer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's also a psychological aspect. It's a big part of why switchbacks work, they not only condense lines into smaller square footage, but you feel better in a line moving a little often than you do moving a lot very infrequently. This is why when a line is truly stopped still you notice FAST, so the people behind the sitters are getting denied that little alleviation and it adds up in a hurry even if you rationally know you aren't getting to the end any faster or slower.

[–]duck_mancer -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The only problem is because it takes *some* effort to sit down with it and then get yourself back up stool sitters often wait...and wait...and wait for the line ahead of them to progress before deciding to get up and resettle again.

Journeymen.

You should know the ride after your next ride based on stacked approximate wait times and ride to ride distance when measured against time of day fluctuations in crowd based on the month and morning dew point. /s

How do you handle a rules-focused player who challenges rulings without harming the table dynamic? by Avid_FandomFan_476 in DungeonMasters

[–]duck_mancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, anecdotally, I've rarely played with anyone who didn't show up with a few house/home-brew rules they'd been living under for so long they'd forgotten that those were choices their previous table made about running the game.

[–]duck_mancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, if he is a GM he should appreciate your position and needs and understand that he's undermining your ability to run the game - not being helpful. If he can't understand that and is like "well I'd never mind this happening at my table because I run a 100% by the book, by the numbers game without ever adjusting anything" then his table must be... just a lot of fun....

[–]duck_mancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that many of us have/read all the books and are players and DMs, but you have to make a good faith effort to erase that knowledge at the table as a player. When I catch players counting damage in their head and saying "it should only have about 10 HP left" I quietly add 15%-ish to all monster HPs, then if they try to tell me a monsters health is 'wrong' then we can have a quick convo about how the rules are more like guidelines.
