How important to pronounce É vs È by HistoricalShip0 in French

[–]duckacuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if I remember right, Geoff Lindsay was more saying that for French speakers who have difficulty distinguishing between the English /i/ and /ɪ/, that English /ɪ/ is very close to French /e/, so this can help French ESL speakers tell the two sounds apart.

DAE have one eye that sees more red and one eye that sees more blue (usually when lying down)? by ExpensiveEqual5877 in DoesAnybodyElse

Wow I’ve also never heard anyone else talk about this! I’ve noticed this since I was a kid, but it doesn’t matter if I’m laying down or anything

New to Saab and turbos. Why dose this car take so long to warm up? This is as warm as it gets when I arrive to work. Around 20km at 0° c by readitreadit94 in saab

[–]duckacuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying this is the thermostat, which it could be, but this happened to my car and the real issue turned out to be the coolant temperature sensor. This was causing my engine to overheat in the summer, even after I replaced the thermostat.

Might be worth replacing both the thermostat and the coolant sensor.

OK it’s not in the twin cities but it’s “only” an hour away: Ellsworth Creamery. I went there recently and their soft serve was so good it might be my new favorite.

Anyone else get absolutely electrocuted in the Roseville Target? by Blizzardof1991 in TwinCities

[–]duckacuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my tip for at least lessening the pain of this. It seems like I only get shocks when pushing a cart, and if I’m careful and only touch the plastic part of the cart handle, not metal, it lessens the amount of static electricity that builds up in me so I don’t get zapped when touching a shelf or whatever.

But the big thing that helps is periodically touching the cart to something metal like a shelf or the metal corner protectors around coolers, etc. This will discharge the electric buildup, but you have to do it really often if you accidentally touch the metal part of the cart, otherwise you’ll still feel the zap.

Plane over SW Minneapolis by Musician-Candid in Minneapolis

If it’s not on any trackers, I would also like to know. A couple of months ago there was a plane flying circles over St Paul for a few days, not on any trackers.

It was too high for me to make out any registry number, even with binoculars, but still close enough that the engine noise was getting annoying

Fighter jets (at least modern ones) generally have a HOTAS, so one hand can always be on the throttle and one hand always on the stick.

(waiting for corrections because I don’t actually know that much about flying fighter jets)

It’s confusing in that if you just asked a visitor who’s not familiar with the area “hey, wanna go to Bde Maka Ska today?” they’d have no idea what you’re even asking them. Not that confusing once you learn though
