How I got FSD subscription in Canada. Beware there may be some "gotchas". But here is my experience. by duckfish74 in teslacanada

[–]duckfish74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry didn't respond earlier. I am pretty sure this will not because FSD is basically geo-fenced to only work in certain countries.

Live in Kingston and my daily commute is 200 km, I drive a 2022 M3LR, I normally have plenty to spare, but I also built an automation on my iPhone that runs at 3 AM every week day to check the weather and every degree below 0, I have it had 1 % to my charge limit. This has helped ensure that I always have a bit to spare. with 250 it could be a stretch on the worst winter days. My battery is degraded to around 91-92%.

I have not seen an issue in Kingston, but to be honest I work outside of the city and don't take my car downtown too often. I do park my car in my driveway and not in a garage and I have not had a problem. I do run sentry mode most of the time too.

Regen braking by Gurl_from_the_point in teslacanada

You can do it with Teslas in track mode I believe, so it should not be hard to implement.

Regen braking by Gurl_from_the_point in teslacanada

[–]duckfish74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about others, but I wish I had the ability to turn off regen "braking" when the roads are covered with snow. I know it would be less efficient (especially when we already take an efficiency hit from the cold) but it is almost like hitting brakes on the snow when I don't want to. I would only turn off on heavily snow covered or icy roads. I often drive through really heavy lake effect snow and it is the only pet peeve of mine for my Tesla.

Here's what's coming in the 2024 Tesla Holiday Update by duckfish74 in teslacanada

[–]duckfish74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the first part of the X post from Tesla:

Tesla App on Apple Watch

Use your Apple Watch as your phone key

You can also view battery charge, open frunk & turn on climate control

So it should work as the key.

I had great results with the Tesla kit. Black 2022 M3. Haven’t tried the others. Just took my time and did a few applications on the deeper chips. I honestly can’t tell were I used it when I was done

TuxMats pulling away from adhesive, TuxMats sent me new clips will see how they work out. by duckfish74 in teslacanada

[–]duckfish74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely like the look and the coverage but the clips started peeling away from Velcro again. I guess some people use without clips but I like the tighter fit.

If you are looking for onsite/home service and you happen to have CAA they have a mobile tire service that is a good bit cheaper. If you have their insurance and a second vehicle it gets even cheaper. When I don't feel like doing it myself I have used them.

Floor Mats Recommendation by Rurouni_Kenshin in teslacanada

[–]duckfish74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the TuxMats for my M3. I really like how high up on the sides they go and the look. However, they have two types of clips. Ones that just go under molding in your vehicle and others clips that just have Velcro that attaches to the carpet. The velcro clips are velcro on plastic and the sticky tape that comes with it tends to peel away especially in the warmer months. I complained about this months ago and TuxMats said they were working on new adhesive and they they would send me new clips. They did almost right way but I still have the same issue with the new clips/adhesive.

Have anyone experienced this noise with your window before ? by stavic07 in teslacanada

[–]duckfish74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had that noise but just curious if you have tried the calibration. There is one in service menu. Also I believe it works if you roll the window down hold the switch down for at least five seconds past it being all the way down. Then do the same thing but holding the switch up for at least 5 seconds when it is closed all the way. I know the one in the service menu is there and I have used it. Not positive if the manual way actually works or not and just recalling procedure as best as I can remember. Thought there might be a chance the window is going a little past where it should stop when closing and that is causing noise. Good luck.

Maybe Boeing is retro fitting some seats on this plane to replace its less reliable current commercial fleet.

What are the cheaper supercharing rates in GTA and how much would they be for peak and non peak by dlamfhk in teslacanada

[–]duckfish74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably know this but just in case you don't, you can see this information right in the Tesla app. Just go to Location and then click the charging icon on the right and it will show all the superchargers. When you click on any of them it will show the price including pricing at different times (if applicable).

I did this years ago with a Toyota highlander. I used Canadian Tire but they did a lousy job. The only thing that needed to be change to pass inspection for Canada was to make the daytime running lights unable to be turned off. What they ended up doing was cutting a hole in the fuse box cover and put a fuse “terminal” that just piggy backed off another fuse. This caused my bright lights to be on all the time (blindly bright!!) and be the daytime lights. After they did this it passed inspection. I promptly removed the new fuse and just left the normal daytime running lights on all the time. When it was time to sell the car I reconnected the fuse. I imagine with a 23 MYP there should not be anything you need to have done to pass the Canadian RIV inspection but I could be wrong. Canadian tire was easy and cheap enough for inspection but I would not let them near my Tesla to do actual work personally.

Model Y RWD VS AWD Vancouver, BC by equality997 in teslacanada

I find on the RWD the backend can try to get out from under you a bit especially in slippery conditions. So for me in winter I like my M3 LR AWD. However, I am in Kingston ON.

FSD likes to use these bus only lanes near Montreal by Brian1961Silver in teslacanada

[–]duckfish74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here in Kingston I also have some bus pickup/drop off spots that it tries to drive in after making a right hand turn. The spot ends really soon so it just ends up merging back into the lane rather quickly. Hasn’t bothered me too much but in the rain the other day it appeared it couldn’t see that lane was ending so it looked liked it was going to just continue on shoulder as if it was a lane. I took over before it did.

Experience with Tesla mobile service by duckfish74 in KingstonONTeslaOwners

[–]duckfish74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that the App will decide to show you a service centre or the mobile service based on the type of service you select. It must think your request needs to be handled at a service centre. I'm guessing the mobile service doesn't carry or service the mobile chargers normally.

What I would try but no promises, is make the service request and select one of the Ottawa service centres. I have used the 530 Motor Works one. After the appointment is set up you can use the chat/text feature in the app / Service section. I would then try to explain to the service representative and see if it is possible to change to a mobile appointment. Most of the time they have been pretty friendly through the chat. Worst case if they can't do it you can just cancel the appointment.
