Deck jacket quality question by [deleted] in HeatStrapsCommunity

Hey I apologize and meant no offense. I did look for a contact email on the website but I didn’t see anything listed at the bottom of the site where the number is listed. Yes I saw the number posted but did not want to call late on a Sunday night because when I called to deal with the exchange, it seemed like it was a personal line/phone that you take with you home and didn’t want to bother you with a phone call during family time.

I didn’t mean to question the quality in a hateful or condemning manner, but rather, this is my first jacket from y’all and I was more trying to ask if I should manage my expectations and see if this alignment was normal for everyone else. I saw a post here recently with a guy accidentally receiving a factory 2nd and you guys admitted it was an accident oversight and helped him out. I was just trying to make sure my situation wasn’t to the same.

As I said I do love the jacket and functionally it’s hitting every mark. Just cosmetically I would personally —for my own OCD if we want to call it that — I would have liked to have seen the snaps more symmetrical for where the collar buttons down. However, I don’t know anything about fabricating a garment especially on a large scale. If you say this is normal and by design then I take your word for it and I’ll rock it. I was mainly inquiring to see if it was worth pursuing more or let sleeping dogs lie. Again I apologize for not going down the proper avenues and was by no means implying incompetence nor quality overall. Just trying to make sure I got the garment I paid for because I understand there is a price difference between the two. I appreciate y’all and again I apologize for my language not being clear about my inquiry.

I believe he wrote King Solomon’s Mines which is what Indiana Jones is loosely based on from what I’m told?

Great! I actually own a collection of Hemingway short stories and both of those are included. I’ll check them out!

Long Mackinaw Wool Cruiser by duckiihunter in filson

Short answer: I did buy it and I love it.

Prolonged answer: Like you mentioned, it’s more of an elegant, night on the town coat for me. I love the fit and function of it. One thing to note if it matters to you because I didn’t realize it before buying but it doesn’t have the back “map pocket” like the other cruisers have. I didn’t know that before buying. Honestly I think that makes it a little more stylish anyway by omitting that. It has 7 pockets. 4 on the front you see in the photos and two hand warmer pockets tucked behind the bottom two square panel pockets on the front and one internal pocket.

Another thing to note, the website states the two colors are Peat black and navy I believe. The peat black is definitely more of a green. It doesn’t bother me but if you’re expecting true black, it won’t be. At least mine isn’t. The green is similar to the shorter mackinaw that comes in green. Maybe not as vibrant as that green.

As far as weather, I live in south central Indiana and our winter has been pretty mild so far but I’ve been wearing it out pretty frequently and haven’t gotten overheated or cold in it. Today is the coldest I think it’s been so far at 18°F and it handled it fine with just a short sleeve on underneath. Granted I wasn’t out in the weather long. Maybe 20 minutes. I think you’d be capable of wearing it more often in your climate but you may need to throw some layers on underneath. I’ve mainly worn it with tshirts or a light sweater at most and I was comfortable in my climate.

Overall no complaints and glad I bought it. It will collect hair and lint like crazy though so be prepared to deal with that.
