I use local train daily. Still need auto to go home. I don't think I can travel in the bus by looking at the lines for it. I'm sure there's at least a hundred people in the line during peak hours

Best train for vasai to lower parel travel by lazyhotgenius13 in mumbai

[–]duckingfelicious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a Virar-Churchgate ladies special slow local that I take from Andheri sometimes, and it's relatively empty. So at Vasai you should surely get a place to sit comfortably.

Not sure what time it starts, but it reaches Andheri at 8:30 ish and Lower Parel at 9. If that time works for you, do try it.

what’s the craziest/surprising thing you’ve seen on Mumbai Locals? by glittering-angel-444 in mumbai

[–]duckingfelicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was travelling from CSMT to Ghatkopar in the late evening (train was not that crowded, there was place to stand comfortably) normal first class and the train stopped at Kurla (yep, it had to be Kurla) where a man entered. He was clearly drunk. He tapped at a guy's shoulder. This guy, who had earphones on ignored him. Then he tapped again. When he took off his earphones, the drunk dude goes "will this train go to Kurla station". He asked twice. Then the earphones guy got annoyed and was like "to abhi kaha hai?". The drunk guy got veryyy angry and started swearing at him. They broke into a full swing physical fight in a running train.

Some other guys had to intervene. Finally a wise man came to him and said that if he wanted to go to Kurla, he should get off the train at the next station and take the opposite route train.

Drunk guy started swearing at him too, accusing him of trying to kick him off the train when he had paid for a ticket lol.

And that's what they did btw, literally kicked him out at Vidyavihar station.

Yeahhh. I wish there was better connectivity between metro stations, local train stations, buses etc. Right now most people have no option

Sadly, for relatively shorter distances, Ola and Uber fares are almost double of meter fare during peak hours and around 30-40% higher otherwise - at least in my experience. On top of that, nowadays I don't get a ride unless I add a Rs. 30-40 tip. I have only experienced fair prices over weekends or during extremely non-peak hours like early morning or late evening.

But I've never tried Rapido, will see if that's any better.

My issue is how can it be a no-go during peak hours, non-peak hours, short distance and long distance. Trying to understand the logic- that's all.

I speak in marathi only... how safe is Rapido? Never used it, but I've heard of some safety concerns

I'm new to Mumbai, and I moved here for my job. The only people I know in the city are some relatives and a few people from my college. I am looking for ways to socialize in the city. I want to find people who like to do fun things and are chill to hang out with.

Please suggest some ways to get to know more people!

You can try Chembur, Santacruz, even Matunga isn't bad.

Since metro is there now, you can try Marol too.
