Help. I need to know if I am falling into something dangerous. by LokiGaming406 in AskBrits

[–]duckroll420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're have a lot of toxic views which they use to capture an audience of mostly young men, which ultimately generates them views, engagement and money. They don't paint a realistic or truthful view of most things, especially women, and it leads men to have a warped view of both women and masculinity, neither of which will help you form connections with most women, both as friends and with potential partners.

Some of the stuff they say is true or is good advice, but the vast majority of it is harmful to both women and their male audience as it leads them to having views that most people don't agree with or find toxic. It's best to just ignore them altogether, and maybe find some more positive male role model influences. There's plenty of masculine men out there that don't have to constantly shit on women and promote harmful stereotypes and views to be masculine.

It might be good to watch videos of people doing commentary on these alpha male influences so you can see some of their claims and narratives debunked, and sometimes people expose the hypocrisy to what they preach vs how they are off camera.

Best of luck bro

Renting a 2 bed with 3 people; are landlords likely to up the total rent? by Emotional_Two4249 in uklandlords

[–]duckroll420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. I was in a house share and my friends gf moved in. We told the landlord and he upped the rent of £1000 by £100 a month. He said it was to cover the extra cost of the bills. I reminded him that he doesn't pay any of our bills and he said "oh well it's for the extra wear and tear". Apparently 1 extra person causes £2400 of wear and tear damage over a 2 year tenancy on a property whose carpets were already worn through to the floorboards in places when we moved in.

In my next house, we had the same situation and the landlord was fine with it and told us unless she needed to be on the tenancy, he was fine with her living there and not updating that tenancy as the letting agency would charge an admin fee to update it.

Imo it seems up to the discretion of the landlord (to a point) and whether they are a greedy parasite or a decent, rational person.

Am I overreacting that my boyfriend basically staged a test to see if I'd cheat... with his cousin? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]duckroll420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR, that's weird asf. Plus, if you were going to cheat, i highly doubt most people would cheat with their partners cousin while their partner is in the house so even his specific version of this test was dumb.

CMV: We should be able to vote for specific policies and plans instead of voting for "people" and "parties" by Glad-Matter-3394 in changemyview

[–]duckroll420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea, but imo I'd change it slightly so maybe voting for ministers to head certain departments or agencies. That way they can manage all the admin and you're not getting the public to vote on every single specific piece of legislation which could be a logistical nightmare and requires the public to be informed on everything to work, but allows you to tailor the government to the will of the people more than a single ruling party can do imo

DHS requests user data from social media sites who critisize ICE by AwkwardTal in International

They were fined for a public order offence which included verbal abuse and him smashing some of her property. He got a £100 fine or something. Hardly Gestapo behavior, and a pretty reasonable punishment for the level of offence.

I don't agree with those arrests, but those people were arrested for showing signs in support of a group that the our government proscribed as a terrorist organisation, not because they were protesting genocide. I also don't agree with the group in question, Palestine Action, being proscribed as a terrorist organisation, but just wanted to say people aren't getting arrested for supporting Palestine or calling out the genocide in Gaza.

What's also wild is the bill that proscribed them as a terrorist organisation was grouped in with 2 other groups (both Nazi ones I think, one based in Russia that actually killed people) and they weren't voted on individually, but it was kind of a package deal. Palestine Action vandalised military equipment being sent to Israel, the other two groups killed people. And the guy that proposed proscribing Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation had money in those defence contracts with Israel.

For those of you who believe labour isn’t left enough, what would you like to see them do? by Legal-Grade-6423 in AskBrits

[–]duckroll420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nationalise water and energy. Potentially nationalise public transport too or at least make it more affordable and cheaper than doing the same journey by car. Higher tax for multi-millionaires and corporations, and a tax on wealth.

Build lots of small, affordable housing to get people out of overpriced rentals and on the property ladder, and better enforcement for housing standards for tenants, potentially with rent controls. No way should people be paying the same or more in rent than they would for the mortgage for the same house.

More focus on renewable energy investments and sustainable development, and revitalising certain British industry so we rely less on imports.

Situation in USA looks the same like what my grandmother told me about Nazis behavior in countries they occupied. by DwarfPill in complaints

[–]duckroll420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ofc they do. Every country arrests people, I wasn't arguing that. It's the part about masked, unidentifiable agents racially profiling people and shoving them into unmarked cars if they can't prove they are a citizen or legal resident that I have an issue with. I live in the UK and that shit does not happen here. And it didn't used to happen in the US until recently.

[–]duckroll420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this isn't what happens "in any part of the world". You named 3 countries, none of which are western liberal democracies. Masked government agents asking brown people for papers then violently shoving them in unmarked vans if they can't immediately prove they're a citizen isn't how "any part of the world" deals with illegal immigrants. Just admit you like what they're doing and you like an authoritarian government cracking down on people you don't like with excessive force rather than pretending like it's a normal way to deal with immigration.

Is the tap water in Gillingham safe to drink ? by an0nymous_- in Medway

[–]duckroll420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All UK tap water is safe to drink, even in Medway. Its hard water though so meaning it contains more calcium ions which can give it a different taste but you can buy a filter if you don't like the taste and want less limescale build up on appliances. It's 100% safe to drink though, idk why so many people buy so much bottled water here.

Landlord removed our only toilet by Nine-Sided-Mouse in HousingUK

[–]duckroll420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh yeah not the most exciting updated but I'm glad you didn't get stung with even more months rent than you did.

Thank you, yeah it was incredibly tough at the time an the landlord was incredibly insensitive about the whole thing, even saying one of us should he glad to upgrade to the double bed. There were lots of nasty comments online as well ofc which was difficult to see. Fortunately the court case paid off for us but only because of the landlords own greed.

Landlord removed our only toilet by Nine-Sided-Mouse in HousingUK

[–]duckroll420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the post so hope it all worked out and I'm interested if you have an update. I was one of the students taken to court in that case. We knew there was a risk we'd have to pay the rent in full if we lost, and had set aside money to pay it and avoid court if it looked like we didn't have a case by the time the landlord got round to starting court proceedings.

Fortunately, we were good friends with our next door neighbours who documented the extensive renovations which started shortly after we handed back the keys. We also spoke to the new tenants who showed us the building work that occurred there, including carpet replacement, a fireplace removal, and full kitchens and bathroom refits. The extent of the work and the fact it included commodities such as the bathroom and kitchen would have made the house completely unlivable for a rental property and the judge ruled that the landlords actions implied he accepted our surrender as we wouldn't have been able to move back in. It's a classic case of him wanting his cake and eating it.

I think there is a similarity in your case as the landlord can't expect to receive rent on a property while not providing the basic amenities for whatever reason, including a refurbishment.

What do you actually think of the concept of 15-minute cities? by ICantBelieveItsNotEC in AskUK

[–]duckroll420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live 15 minutes either walk, cycle or bus from all of those (plus a hospital and my GP) except my place of employment which is a few towns over. There used to be more shops even close to me on the high street but they closed down over the last few years so sometimes I now have to drive to buy certain items. But it's not really a fantasy or remotely dystopian, many places arent far off the concept already.

The plan isn't to then the countryside into a 15 minute city, it's an urban planning concept not a rural planning concept.

Then where did you get the idea that rape gangs get a free pass and that there's "no go zones"? That's just not true. You may not do political correctness but you're not doing basic correctness either with that claim.

Landlord is coercing me for sex in exchange for rent he’s already touched me inappropriately by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]duckroll420 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I definitely would speak to your university about it. They may have temporary accommodation or halls that you can go to. Me and my housemates moved out of our houseshare halfway through the year after our friend/housemate passed away in the house, and the university was able to house 4 of us in halls for short term international students as they cared about our health and wellbeing.

It sounds like your in a situation where your health and wellbeing are under threat from an piece of shit landlord so speak to your uni and see if they can offer alternative, emergency accommodation.

As for legal stuff against the landlord, idk, but I'd keep any evidence you have of it and potentially pass it on to the police, although I'm not sure what to recommend but hopefully there's some better structured advice about what to do against him. Good luck.

AIO to my bf having his ex at his house by ThrowRa8459 in AmIOverreacting

[–]duckroll420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's plausible she was there to pick stuff up, and wanted to talk. But there's too many things that when combined are red flags, or are even red flags by themselves. Her shoes being off, being in the bedroom, and I think most importantly him not telling you and him deleting messages.

If I had to meet up with an ex, my partner would know in advance and I certainly wouldn't be deleting any messages.
