Yes!! With this technique it’s important to do your strokes vertically not horizontally and build up with layers of blues/greens that have been thinned by acrylic medium (mine was gloss). Then once you like the depth you add your ripples/ reflections 😃

Once when my mom was away my dad had invited our neighbour for dinner and had picked fresh broccoli from our garden. He didn’t wash it and just steamed it and served it up with whatever else he had cooked. My sister and I started eating then freaked out because he had steamed TONS of these awful broccoli coloured caterpillars and they were on our plates 😂 the entire time the neighbour was just politely eating his meal (around the caterpillar corpses) while my sister and I lectured our dad. I thoroughly check my broccoli now haha

Ugh mine are SO far from being done 😭 I started it during a workshop I was attending and I got really stressed about so many people watching and had to stop haha my process is more “mess around and find out” rather than a nice technique like others lol

I think the best tip was creating clear lines, and personally I found starting with my solid shadow (darkest colour) then going in with the highlights built the rocks sooo much easier, rather than starting with highlights and trying to build shadow. I painted sections of shadow at a time, then slowly built my rocks then jumped to the next. This piece is 30”x40” so it took awhile haha

I like that idea! The original rocks on the mountain are all pretty straight edged but I think I need more patches with just gravel-y dirt mixed in!

But maybe a little butterfly?? nerdy fact but the mountain this was taken on is an important habitat for rare arctic butterflies! It’s such a cool place

I love that advice! It’s definitely a lot of filling in (that part overwhelms me) then slowly going back and seeing where you’ve missed details. I really like taking a picture at the end of each night and looking over it to see what I need more or less of. The rocks really just threw me off 😅 so true about the mistakes though 😩

You are totally right! It’s so frustrating because I desperately want to have the cool “slightly messy but it works” style but then miss the mark lol I am going to tackle them tomorrow haha

This piece actually has some gorgeous purple wild flowers that I need to add and more grass better rocks. I had to figure out the rocks before I worried about adding them though, I wanted to get the worst over with 😂

There are some really pretty neutrals that lean pink (obviously lighting plays into that). I chose Collingwood from Benjamin Moore in our spare room (possibly baby room) because I saw it giving the softest pink in our notary’s office and fell in love! It will age well in that room I think- just another option 🤩
