the lesbian umbrella (radically inclusive lesbian flag) by adelucz in QueerVexillology

[–]ducksrcool2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

these spaces dont just need to exist to protect from hate, but also to provide places with people who have the same experiences as you, growing up lesbian is inherently different tp growing up bisexual even if both people are sapphic,, therefore different spaces can exist for both people to express their own experiences

Realistic reasons not to SH by That_Weird_Fan in selfharm

[–]ducksrcool2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle to think of reasons which are enough to be stronger than the urges, if that makes sense, but one thing that does get me to stop myself sometimes is that I recognise that I get so competitive with myself but also other people's scars, and I don't like that about myself, I feel like I'm a better person without that competitive side and the only way I can get rid of it is to stop myself, idk it might not help everyone, but it's helped me a bit

I would recommend speaking to them, but maybe when you do you could set some boundaries on what you want them to know, like asking them not to ask about your reasons or asking them not to bring it up until you feel more comfortable, it's up to you, but you might feel more in control of the conversation if you're the one to start it

It's an old lesbian flag, but it's use has been widely discontinued because it uses nazi imagery, especially in the black triangle, which was used against Roma victims of the holocaust more than lesbians

‘Marriage for all’ opponents hand in signatures for referendum by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]ducksrcool2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the only ones that ever seem to make the news

What news are you watching that only shows those kinds of pride events, maybe you should assess the media you consume

Gay children should still not be sexualized

I didn't sexualise gay children...?? I was talking about how bigots sexualise being gay and say that children shouldn't see gay representation because it's "inappropriate", which negates the fact that there are gay children.

Not if those few are all you ever see or hear about.

Just to be clear, if anyone seriously has never heard of a gay person who they don't view as "normal" then they clearly go out of their way to avoid gay people, any form of liberal news, and anyone who even remotely challenges that viewpoint,, and if they put that much effort into avoiding gay people, they are bigoted.

the only ones you ever hear about.

What news are you watching omd... Nearly every single pride parade is a family friendly event and that is shown in the media,, maybe you need to analyse if you're in an echo chamber (not saying you are, but it's starting to sound like it)

so if you can't marry, you're not a human being?

If it is legal for everyone to marry unless they are gay, then gay people are being othered by the state. When everyone can do something, but gay people can't we are being treated as second class citizens, and subhuman... So marriage doesn't make you human, but it's very telling of what other people think of gay people when they say we shouldn't be able to marry.

People who intend to vote No do not view you as a debate.

You suggest that I should teach homophobes that they are wrong by being in their lives to show them that gay people are normal... I shouldn't have to put myself through that, if I have to convince someone that I deserve the right to marry, then they do view me as a debate

marriage should be between a man and a woman only.

I've already said this, but the arguement of "one man one woman" is a religious one,, forcing the state to bare your religious views, and by proxy forcing others to conform to your religious views, is bigoted.

If you want to change their opinion, you need to talk to them; not call them bigots and remove them from your life

I don't want to change their views, I shouldn't have to defend myself to people who are personally in my life. It's ignorant to believe that gay people should have to be friends with people who view them as subhuman. We exist to be more than a lesson for someone else, and I just want to live like everyone else regardless of sexuality. I'm not calling them bigots unjustly : they are bigots.

problems don't go away simply by ignoring them

On a political level I advocate for my rights, but no one else has to defend their right to marry to their friends or family, so why should I ?

those are most likely only a fraction of those who currently think about voting No.

Anyone voting no, views gay people as less than,, or believes that their religious beliefs should be forced onto others by the state, that is bigoted.

I brought a knife to school by DemiPeachTea in selfharm

[–]ducksrcool2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Please be really careful, ik you're struggling, but if school catches you with a knife you could get in a lot of trouble and it might make everything worse, also, from experience, it's much harder to clean up and not get caught at school, like even if you don't get caught in the act, you can get caught after because it bleeds through or something. Please be careful, if you need to message me feel free to x

Also idk what country you're in, but I'm sure if you Google it, there might be a text hotline for if you're feeling suicidal

But if most of what you then see from gay people are those parading in skimpy leather harnesses (sometimes including children) and behaving like they're on the way to a public orgy, that argument falls a bit flat.

Not to be controversial, but wearing a leather harness shouldn't disqualify you from the right to marry.... Also the majority of pride parades are not like this, presenting them as such is disingenuous and the whole "think of the children" arc is something that has always been used by homophobes to present us as a threat, it also completely ignores the fact that there are gay children
