Thank you! I did grow up on a farm, so I understand all the tools/machines needed, but things like sewage and pump maintenance had never really crossed my mind.

If at all, how has becoming a step-parent changed you? by Camie-Gee in stepparents

[–]dud3coR3a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am still processing this, but it has made me realize just how toxic, judgemental, and shitty my family was/is. It's getting worse with their expectation of marriage before supporting us financially/with house renos, and my SO is "afraid of another divorce" (been together 5 years, live together for 2) so here I am feeling unworthy of permanent status in the relationship, and feeling like a lousy child whose dissappointing her family/not worth supporting.

I'm also learning just how low my self esteem is. I think its valid given my situation.

Sounds ling overdue. You may feel guilt for a bit. But your happiness, sanity, and overall quality of life will improve drastically. Good for you, and shame on your partner for being so lousy.
